Switches

My club uses Lionel O-72 switches and we are constantly having problems with them. Has any one used the Ross Custom Switches in combination with the Lionel O-Gauge track. We are looking for Switches that won’t bounce the engines all over the place when going across them.

Have heard good things about Ross switches, but haven’t used them. The pre-war and post-war Lionel O-72 switches are much better than the new ones, if you can find them.

I would never use anything else. I love my Ross switches but have never used them with Lionel track.

You can use Ross switches or Curtis, an equally fine turnout. Gargraves sells mating pins to connect Lionel tubular track to Gargraves track (which is what Ross and Curtis use to build their turnouts.

The Ross and Curtis turnouts will need to shimmed (cork road bed for example) to raise their rail height to that of Lionel O gauge track (which I assume is what you have). If you are using Lionel 027 or Super O, no shimming is necessary since the rail heights are the same.
