Well, Karl, it is their site and they are the one paying the bills.
Soooooo, if they say “Pay to Play”, (or in this case read and write), then that is what you have to do.
Either it’ll work or they are shooting themselves in the foot. Time will tell.
I was an early member there years back. As I recall the pay to play was introduced to cover server costs and then expanded to webcams and other stuff. The news became stale there a long time ago.

The nonmembers are not being kicked off they just won’t have access for a week or so until the bugs in the new system are being worked out. Here is what Todd had to say,

On Sunday, February 19th, Trainorders.com will close down between 2 and 4 hours while we relaunch the remodeled site on a brand new server with upgraded software. As a result, the site will be unavailable for part of the day. We will announce the work times as we get closer to the date.
“In addition, we will be closing the site down for approximately one week to non-members while we evaluate server performance. This DOES NOT effect Premium and Heritage members as they will still have site access as before.”
It looks like this is just a way to reduce traffic until things settle down a bit.
