What ever happened to Texas and Pacific 610? I believe this was a 2-10-4 Texas type. I know they were running it on excursions in the 70’s and 80’s, but haven’t seen anything of it lately. Do you know where I can find some photos? And a website would be great also. Any infromation about the engine would help. Thanks everyone.
610 is located on the Texas State Railroad in Palestine TX. Too heavy for their bridges, so it doesn’t run over the line, to my knowledge–it’s protected in a building except when they pull it out for display. Tours are available. Very nice, well-maintained tourist operation and 2 beautiful state parks, all run by Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept… Great time to go is around Easter when the dogwoods are in bloom. They also have an operational ATSF light pacific (#500) and several other operational locomotives in excursion service. #300, just placed back into service, is a former USATC Baldwin 2-8-0, built in 1917 and used by the U.S. Army in both world wars, the last known operating General Pershing-type engine today.
