I recently needed a quantity of “shacks” for a trackside feature, and came up with the idea of mass producing them. I cut a long rectangle of one size of wood and then an angled piece to glue on top.(as shown). The I cut individual lengths of buildings. Then I used Campbell shingles and cardstock (or dimensional lumber) for window frames and door openings. Different paint jobs and Voila! Roy.
Great idea and great job! For those who are complaining about no interior, The man of the house just got home from a long week or so working and the curtains are shut tight.
Looks like a great launching point for a company town at a coal mine. All that’s needed is a couple of washes of grimy black!
The coal that comes out of my mine is sub-bituminous, and the (fillintheadjectives) dust gets everywhere and on everything. I have the prototype photos to prove it.

No need to make up a story. Just paint the area where the window goes black and coat it with clear gloss. This gives a very realistic window effect. Try it.
