I am about to lay some track on woodland scenics roadbed, glued to a sheet of construction grade styrofoam. How can I achieve a POSITIVE< SOLID location, (like using brads through the roadbed, and into the old fashioned wooden benchwork). It seems to me that nailing (with small brads into the styrofoam), is not effective at all. Any suggestions???
I used cork road bed, but the the same methods should work.
I glued the raod bed in place as you’ve done, then used T pins across the ties to locate the flex track.
When all joints were sodered, I used a 50-50 mix of water and white glue to secure the track. Wait at least 24 hours before removing the anchor pins.

Another option is to glue the track down with a very thin coating of Liquid Nails for Foam. This is a special formulation that contains no solvents that could dissolve styrofoam, and it dries clear. I have used this extensively to glue flex track and turnouts down on HO scale modules. A restriction is that you still need to pin the track down until the Liquid Nails has thoroughly dried, or used weights to hold it in place. I used bricks. Another thing to be careful about is, don’t put glue where the turnout throwbars are going to be – I made that mistake once or twice or thrice.
Thanks for your help…I guess I’ll try some diluted white glue, and after ballasting, it should set up pretty good. I’m testing this out on a small piece of yard to see how easily I can get it off if needed.[bow]
I struggled, too, when I built new portions of the layout with foam. I finally used Liquid Nails, and think that is the way to go. It’s firm, but gives you a little time to set the track.
