Tacoma Link to charge fares in 2014
And a year from now, you’ll be reporting about how ridership has substantially declined following the introduction of fares…
It was a serious error by Tacoma Link’s operating agency to run “free service” beyond, say the first weekend. Now it remains to be seen if this turns into another boondoggle.
Sure ridership will drop for a period but in due time people will come around start riding the Tacoma Link once again because of it’s convenience A dollar and a half isn’t going to break you for God’s sake. Besides fares are necessary for partially fund the service. Isn’t the freebies used to introduce patrons to the new service?
Plans have been in the works for years, actually, to expand this small line into residential neighborhoods. I feel ST should have waited until any new extension opened before beginning to charge fares.
Why not have Downtown Tacoma busines ses pay for Tacoma Link operating costs?
Even from 3000 miles away, a million annual rides so far sounds (pun intended) like a pretty fine success- congratulations - I’ll bet the riders will surprise the nay- sayers.
