Nice work!

The cars are too old for my era, but I did learn something from your tutorial. That is how to square up the end of a tube. Next time I am doing a project that requires square ends I will put your idea to work.

Another use for the tube squaring jig came to mind. I have frequently had the need to cut very thin pieces of styrene tubing to use as shims, instrument bezels, or poling pockets etc. Cutting a square slice off of a sytrene tube is a very hit and miss proposition if you are doing it freehand. Using your idea it would be easy. First square the end of the tube, and then push the tube through the jig until the correct thickness of the ‘shim’ is protruding from the jig, and then slice the shim off with a square X-acto blade.

It would be nice to have a drill press for making the jig so that the holes are perpendicular to the surface, but I think reasonable accuracy could be achieved by hand. It would certainly be more precise than trying to slice a piece off freehand.

I’ll have to dig around to see if I can find a 1/4" thick piece of metal.

Thanks
