Can someone please clear this up for me? I have never heard this one before.
I understand that November 4th is Take a Model to work day. Do they mean a Locomotive or Freight car or any type of Model? Allan.
Crap, I was hoping it was a Playboy or Victoria’s Secret model. [:(]
But seriously, it’s any model or other prop that would help you start a conversation with coworker(s) about model railroading. The NMRA started National Model Railroad Month (November) years ago, and this was added later. The theory is that there’s a lot of “closet model railroaders” out there, and we are supposed to try to bring them out.
I probably built 1/4 of my car fleet at work when I worked weekends.
anyone have heidi klum’s number handy?
i could wear my locomotive cap that day.
stay safe

Id take one of my models to work…but it wouldn’t last an hour where I work. So…forget it.
Anna Kournakova would be my model of choice…fantastic running gear![bow][:-,][:-,]
If I took a model by that definition to work, it would be my last day of work- heck, it would be my last day of existance.[xx(]
//wife works in the same building
Carol Alt would be my choice, only because I actually knew her brother. I can truthfully say I would not be lacking for backup on any call I had to take… just to make sure my “passenger officer” was OK.
Railroads aren’t the only ones safety conscious, ya know… sometimes cops are that way, too.

Would it be possible, to get kids interested in trains, to hook up an old athearn BB AAC4400 so it spews flames out of the stack?

I suppose I could drag a Chippendale model in behind me at work -

What if you are retired or just don’t have a job?
Take a model out railfanning with you! The train crews would appreciate that…
Morning Mookie.
Morning Allan…ever do any modeling? [}:)]
I have a real problem with this whole take a model to work thing. I don’t work, but I’d be happy to take her home.[swg]
Sound good Jay?[;)]
As long as we are being silly this morning, here’s one for the real railroaders among us. What would your coworkers think if you brought a model train to work? Cool, stupid, or somewhere in between?
Its this concept that the World’s Greatest Hobby campaign has that we should take model trains in and show them to co-workers and the like as if they will really care. I not only would never even consider doing this, but wouldn’t want many people I work with as part of our hobby. Not that I work with bad people, but its not a hobby for everybody, which is what makes it special for those of us that love trains, both real and model. This is one aspect of the WGH campaign that I never could agree with, I have known people I could talk trains with because they had a background or interest, but the only time I bought a model train to work is when I went directly there from the hobby shop. So that is my opinion on the whole thing, for better or worse. I don’t expect everybody to agree with it.
Their degree of appreciation would probably depend on how little she was wearing. Get Cindy Crawford decked out in almost-nothings from Victoria’s Secret and they would probably stop the train for however long you wanted. I would.
My co-workers already think I’m nuts - bringing either variety of model with me to work would simply reaffirm their beliefs.
I might be convinced to set up a length of track and a few cars on the shelf above my desk, though. Good reason to dig out the ol’ Berk and a bunch of hoppers.
