Taking down my Lionel Postwar 027 Layout

Thirteen years ago I embarked on a fun, education, wonderful and rewarding journey into model trains. I collected, planned, built, wired, and operated a Lionel Postwar 027 layout. But now, we are moving and the layout must come down. Although I am sad to see it go, I am not discouraged as I look back at all the enjoyment I’ve experienced in this wonderful hobby. So, I am looking forward to building a new layout at our new home in the not too distant future.

I have learned so much over the years about layout planning/construction, collecting, wiring and operating and much of that knowledge came from reading every issue of CTT magazine that I could get my hands on.

All great empires eventually must come down, for a newer and better empire.

I’ve seen your vidios of you operating your trains, very enjoyable and well done, especally the one on operating two trains on the same track.

Tis always a shame when these have to come down Sawon only last week abd if not for my place looking like Charles Foster Kane’s place I wish I COULD have gotten as far as you did sure as Hell have almost everything to build SOMETHING

Least you WILL rebuild it the way it was OR better as opposed to letting it go

Recently, I’ve been there; done that. No regrets beginning all over.

I have always enjoyed your videos, Dave. Your layout is way more “portable” than my old one. What will be its disposition?

Thanks everyone for the kind compliments on my layout. I have had a fun time over the past dozen years, learning, collecting postwar, designing, building, operating, sharing information on the train forums, writing articles for CTT and OGR and posting train videos on YouTube. I am still inspired by the wonderful world of toy trains and certainly plan on a new and improved layout in the not too distant future. I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Dave, like others here I have enjoyed your layouts and videos for many years. I, like you, are experiencing a move and I have taken down my layout all but the table and a loop of track just to run a few more times before we move. It is bitter sweet but extremely amazing and amazing at how much work was put into this layout and how much work it is to take it apart carefully. But like you I look forward to the future and a bigger, if possible and better layout. Thanks again!

When running two trains on the same track were you using something similar to my approach in the Oct. 2007 CTT? Just curious.

Just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed your videos! The " Double Headed Postwar Steam " is inspiring, and quite addicting. Some times I’ve watched more than once in a sitting .We are in the throws of moving, as well. while it must be difficult to dismantle what is complete, and has brought so much joy, to you and many others, there is an excitement that comes with a " clean slate" .

And, like an artist with a blank canvas, the opportunity to explore is wonderful. I hope you look forward as much as I do.
