These are beautifull models but as most high quality models are these days, they are pricey. I have chosen to go with quality kits when I find them on sale to keep costs down but for those with the means, these are very nice indeed. The nine paint schemes with different numbering is a great idea for those who don’t want to renumber lots of models. The metal wheel sets and Kadee couplers are also very welcome since many modelers spend extra money to upgrade to these items on there freight cars after purchase anyway. I will look at these at my local hobby shop where I can usually get about 10%- 20% off retrail price. Tangent put some good thought into the feartures and execution of these models so I give this product a five star rating.

Have been looking at these cars and your review has been very helpful.

only 2 road names ?

I am wondering, Were these cars specific to the UP or were they built for other roads? Was this same car used on the Rio Grande and the BN and Mopac? I used to see a lot of these types of cars when I lived in Colorado but not sure if there were minor construction differences between cars sold to different railroads. I asked the people at Tangent and didn’t get a reply.

With the cost of tooling and materials pricing a product is difficult. I’ts difficult for me when I remember when athearn’s 40 ft box car was 1.98. The quailty of the tooling has vastly improved, justifing the price for these items. The only problem I see is with limited production it puts you in a position of having to make choices. You have to limit you numbers or choices. Some of the manafactures are acting as there own distribitors which prevents some shops from carrying there line because of the dicount levels. This forces the shop to compete with the manafacture, leaving little room.
