Taylor&Boggis furnace lamp.

My apologies if this is not the right forum for this.

I recieved a heavy cast iron item which looks like an oil can with a long top cap which appears to hang on something. It says on it it’s a furnace lamp from the Taylor & Boggis foundry in Cleveland. Can someone explain what a furnace lamp is?

Have you done a Google Search for the foundry and the term “Furnace Lamp”? I found several hits about them, (also found this question here!)

Did a search but didn’t tell me what it’s for or what it does.

Well, now you got me intrigued… gonna have to look deeper myself. if I find anything more, I post it here, please, you do the same! [:)]

I did find a picture which showed a large wick sticking out of the “teapot” spot. Would like to upload a quick picture, but haven’t figured out how yet.
