TCA, no pictures

What kind of crazy rule does tca have that you can;t take pictures at their shows.? It was reported that OGR tried to take pictures of dealers displays and it was not allowed. dave.

Makes you wonder when K-Line took the pic of their both [?]

Was this really at the show [?] or setup before the show - then moved to york [?]

It is interesting that while there’s lots of speculation about this rule on multiple forums - no-one seems to really know why it exists.

Personally, I always felt it was to make it harder for the tax guys to know who was raking in the money!

Spankybird,

The K-Line photo is definitely taken after setup Thursday night or just before opening on Sat morning. Their booth was packed the entire show as were the aisles in front of their booth (George Tebolt train parts was across from them and typically had a line to get in). The ceiling and wall in the background is that of the Orange Hall.

It was the first time I have gone to York. I had a great time, met a lot of very nice people, and found several items I had been searching for at very reasonable prices like the complete 6 car NYC 027 streamline set to put behind my Lionmaster Hudson.

Regarding the picture rule - I never heard that announced nor was it published in the show literature that I got. They do attempt to prohibit cell phone use in the halls and this was reminded in several annoucements. I tend to agree as the aisles are narrow and getting around people was difficult enough without somebody mindlessly yaking on a cell phone.

I know some venders do not want photos taken of their stuff.

Regards.

Guys,

The rule is no photos, presumably from days gone by when the thinking was that photos could be used to identify who owns what, and presumable would be a useful tool for thieves. No cell phones, 2-way radios, and no child strollers either.

The K-Line booth was at York, and the photo was apparently taken when no Eastern Division officials or security guards (they know the rules, too) were around.

Since it has been posted on K-Line’s website, someone in the Eastern Division will likely tell K-Line not to do it again.

A photographer, with MTH’s blessing, requested permission from meet officials to take photos of an MTH display layout during set-up time. The meet officials told the photographer “no.”

Cell phones are allowed to be carried, but not to be used inside a building. If you get a call, ask the person to hold and move outside to converse. If you make a call, do it outside. This seems reasonable to me.

Cameras are banned completely as are walkie-talkies. It seems to me that taking a picture such as the K-line photo or allowing the trade magazines to take photos of displays outside of the show hours should be allowed, and I would hope TCA Eastern considers this.

Boy am I glad I live in Ohio where we can take photos at train shows [:D][:D][:D]

I guess these beauties must be junk in Pennsylvania [:)]
Note the little head just barely looking over the table in the background…that’s the future. [:D]

No camera policy doesn’t bother me.
The no cell phone use. [^][bow][bow][bow][:D][swg]

daylightdon Grabski,
Not a very smart idea to be posting this on this forum and the others. Did it ever occur to you that someone from the TCA Eastern Division might make a stink about it and ban you from attending future York meets?[:O]

On the otherhand, I think the camera and cell phone rules are stupid and should be done away with.

He is a big wig with the ogr guys and probably has exclusive rights. Knowing the right people will get you anything you want. dave.

Don, do you have a snapshot of yourself with Joshua Cowen that you could post?

Hey Dave,

Daylight Don is one of the nicest and most helpful folks you could ever ask a question of. YOU need to check your ego at the door or go find another forum, again.

RE:No baby strollers, what about a mobility impaired person on a scotter.LIKE ME.If you like to see butts, not see the tables, have people stand around so you can not get by,going to a Train Show is at times not worth all you have to put up with.

The photo of Daylight Don at the K-Line display is a FAKE. Don’t you see the fellow in the yellow jacket in both of them. Don’s photo is cut and pasted from one taken at the OGR Forum dinner on Thursday night. I know this because I was at that dinner and saw the picture being taken.

Here is a link to the original picture. http://ogaugerr.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=63160042&f=453102703&m=5111094151

Just goes to show you can’t believe any digital photo. Too easy to modify.

Chemung,
Wheel chairs, electric scooters, etc. are allowed, as the TCA would be in big trouble if they were to not make the show handicapped acessible by allowing those.

Greg, I am shocked, shocked!

I believe Neil is absoulutely correct about the origins of this rule. The question is what kind of thinking and rationale gave rise to such a rule.

Are anyone’s trains worth stealing??? Mine aren’t!!! Even if they were worth stealing, isn’t that what insurance is for? It isn’t as if someone is going to break in to the fairgrounds in the dead of night and make off with all of the trains. Even the most educated thief would have no idea where to begin, and couldn’t carry enough off to make it worth his while. The whole thing sounds like paranoid delusions. York needs to get a grip on reality.

If the value of toy trains is really that high, then maybe we have our priorities in life wrong.

As for Don’s photo, that was a cute cut and paste. If York is such a great social event, why shouldn’t the members be allowed to take pictures of their friends? Appearently Hooters has better scenery. Tough choice girls or trains. I know I like both.[swg]
