TCA Toy Train Museum, Strasberg, PA

We just came back from a family vacation in the Lancaster PA area. I finally got a chance to see the TCA museum. We really enjoyed it and I extremely enjoyed being able to walk in with my family for free (not really free with all the dues we pay I guess).

Really thought the museum was done very, very well. Got to see some things I’ve always wanted to see closeup. There are some very nice layouts running. I really enjoyed seeing early Dorfan stuff. Really beautiful tinplate IMHO. The Marklin ferris wheel display was very cool but it wasn’t running. I wish they could run that thing.

My one complaint would be the bathroom situation. They have portapotties set up outside the building. I don’t know what the deal is. Do they have these facilities indoors but maybe were under construction or rennovation for our trip?

In any event, great place and I hope the collection grows.

The TCA headquarters and Paradise Township are butting heads over the septic system from the TCA building, and the Red Caboose Motel. The township folks are apparently making the TCA jump thru flaming hoops in the design of the septic drain field. The matter, from what I’ve been reading in the society newsletter, should be corrected in the near future.[;)]

I was there last week too. The museum is pretty nice. The last TCA dues increase was partly to pay for a new sewage system.

The Toy Train Museum is nice but it isn’t the only train related thing is Strasberg, it seems like Strasberg is full of train related stuff that may take a couple of days or more to see all of it. Not too far away is the Red Caboose Diner & motel. Even a nice model railroad shop in Strasberg!
