Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

I’ve noticed posts here recently where responders provide links to various sites that answer someone’s question, and would like to know how to do that.

Several times over the past year I have found answers to questions by searching with Google, but the only way I know how to then include the link to a site is to copy it down on a piece of paper and re-type it into the forum. I know there has to be an easier way.

Can a computer geek please explain to this old dog, in 500 words or less, how to include a link from Google?

If it helps anything, I use Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Internet Exploder.

Thanks.

Go to the page with the answer, highlight the address in the address window, right-click, copy, so into your message where you want the link, right click, paste.

Just go to the website, click the adress bar so the writing becomes white and the background blue, then press ctrl-c, go to the forum, type your message, and press ctrl-v to paste it in

Highlight the link by placing your cursor over the link until it turns a solid color. On your mouse button, click on the right button. One of the options will be “copy”. Click the right button over the Copy and the link will be saved in the computer’s internal memory - the clipboard. It will stay there until you copy something else or turn off the computer. To copy this into a message, right click again and click on “Paste”. This will paste the link into your message.

Here’s the link to this particular thread, that I just did as mentioned above:

Thanks, everyone, that’s exactly what I was looking for – even simpler than I thought. I didn’t know there was a copy and paste function that could be used for this, but had suspected that there had to be an easy way to do it.

Some of the URLs that people have provided have been so long and complicated that I couldn’t imagine copying all of that data down on paper and then re-entering it all.

Well, asking questions is how you learn…there are a lot of functions you can learn by right clicking, or seein what is next to things in the menu (Copy=ctrl-v…so on, it says tat in the menus)

This is a great tool to add to posts, a picture (and link) says a thousand words…

One thing to remember is to put a space after it. Other characters may become part of the link and cause it not to work. i.e. http://www.nmra.org, doesn’t work, but http://www.nmra.org , does.
Enjoy
