Ted Rose photo exhibit in Milwaukee

I am going to be visiting Chicago later this month and thought I would take the Hiawatha to Milwaukee one day to see the exhibit of Ted Rose photos and paintings that are at the Haggerty Museum at Marquette University until the 29th. (A brief story in Trains a couple of months ago caught my eye.)

Would someone with local knowledge tell me if it is possible to walk from the Amtrak station to the Marquette campus? I have a map from Google maps and the Marquette campus map from their website, so I know it isn’t that far between the two (I don’t mind walking a mile or two). But the maps show one bear of a freeway interchange between the two points and the Marquette map warns that certain routes are closed for construction.

Route suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I would call them and ask about conditions. BTW, Rose is one of my favorites also. How many of his paintings are on exhibit?

Greetings,

I believe that you should be able to walk from the Amtrak Station to the Marquette Campus. I would suggest staying on St. Paul Ave and walk westbound. The Amtrak Station is at about 6th Street. Head west to 12th Street and you can walk underneath the freeway and head north towards to MU Campus. That would probably be the best way. Some of the bridges that cross the freeway have been removed for reconstruction. It is a mess but you can still get around.

According to the PDF I printed from the Marquette web site,“over 50 watercolor paintings and photographs”

You’d be further ahead walking then driving. With all of the Marquette interchange re-construction going on, you will probably get there faster.
