Teen Model Railroader Place -Summer 2010-

Well I think it’s time for a new place. I think it’s summer when the average temperature for Wisconsin is over 80!

Sorry I don’t have anything to post! Also, welcome all new members I have missed, and welcome back all returning members!

Good Afternoon Vietnam, er, Teen Model Railroader Place. Mother Nature in Illinois is bipolar, one minute, it’s raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock, next, sunny, beautiful, and 80 degree. On a different note, Anyone heard about HO scale garden railways? I saw a video about them on YouTube, looks fairly easy. I’ve done some construction work, so nothing I’m not used to.

hi everyone

some of you don’t know me because i just joined. and i havent ben on for a couple weeks [:(]. ive been keeking busy auctuall working on my layout in stead of pecking on the keyboard but i running out of supplies so i decided to come back.

yes ive heard about HO scale railroads, ya there eaasy to fund but not easy to maintain and especally for HO scale. come on a simple leafe will derail a train plus most premade tracks would rust in a month a week if it rains heavly. HO garden railroads are not perminint it would be easer to just pay the extra $2000 and get a g scale railroad that might last a year. i got to say i’ve visited some g scale railroads here in florida and there main fear is frost because it messes with the placement of the tracks and i’m here in florida. HO scale garden railroads arn’t worth it . never in a million years[#dots]

Hey Everyone,

Nothing much still planning my new railroad.

Sawyer, Ya I know, I’m thinking about getting maybe a gp7 and like a small switcher and then like a gp50. Not sure yet though, I may just stay with Ho but who knows.

WCfan, Ya I know, I didn’t go on here for a long time. Got busy and kept saying I would and then bam, totally forgot about it. And then wasn’t sure if I should come back or not.

And 80 sounds nice, its in the 100s here. It sucks in AZ right now.

Oh and how did you guys get a link to your website on the bottom.

Thanks,

Taylor

Taylor, good luck with finding a good GP50. there’s the run Kato made back in like the 80’s or 90’s, and then there’s bachmann POS $35 standard line. I’ve often wondered about taking like an Atlas GP38-2 or GP40-2 since they had those locos I know for sure had the same frame as the GP50 in real life, getting the bachmann model, and using BLMA parts and some other manufacturers for what BLMA doesn’t have and build a nice-looking model that runs like it should. I would have to use the Atlas donor loco’s pilots though, as bachmann just has the huge rectangular opening for the truck-mounted crapido coupler >.< Well, painted up Dixie Quick-mix, DEFINITELY needs a second coat of paint. sigh at $3.29 for half an ounce model master paint is a rip-off but it’s all I have access to since my LHS closed, and the nearest others are in Augusta.

Hi everyone, I know I dont post here much but I just graduated high school today (6-6-10) so now ill have some more train time before I go to college in August. Im getting my last locomotive tommorow before I leave in a few months so it should be interesting!

BigBlue, cool. well, finally got the airbrush running. check the pics in the WPF and diner.

BigBlue: Congrats! I just graduated saturday.

This is also my first post here, so I guess I’m just saying Hey!

Welcome aboard, glad to see more teens getting onto this site!

So heres what I got, goes well with my Nj transit cars and ALP-44

And congrats to you to nfrqcs10 !

That’s one sweet geep BigBlue!

Hey Everyone,

Welcome guys and congrats!

Sawyer, thanks for the info and maybe I will get like 2-3 gp15s since those came out alittle while ago and I dont really care which gp series it is since they all are practically the same and will look good o a shortline railroad.

Taylor

Taylor, true. I just checked modeltrainstuff.com and they’re out of stock though, but you can probably find some if you shop around

Im Back!!! Like I said, I have a new DCC system. I am now able to run trains again!!! Well, because I can now run trains, I have commissioned my personal electrician (dad) to drop another feeder, solder some joints, and widen a flange way. I got the shay hooked up with some cars and ran the reopening special! Here are some pics.

Bye

Post Scriptum: Dont let the blur in the photos fool you into actually thinking the shay is moving at a fair clip.

Right now i have a temporarry layout on a 4 by 7 board with brass track. But i was thinking about using EZ-Track. Has anyone used that and balasted it and got good results?

Hey Everyone,

Sawyer, I have been thinking and I may just stivk with HO scale. There is a lot of options and I have dealt with it for a few years so thats good. But who knows, I may have a sudden change of heart. [:)]

Cdog565(hope I spelled that right)

I use HO bachmann track right now and I like it. It came in the trainset I got from walthers and it is very easy to use. Mine is not ballasted though, just straight on the ground foam.

Taylor

Hello everyone, I use E-Z track and it works fine for me. Well i have a 3 track yard now and if anyone has seen my youtube vid im now thinking of getting rid of my hill. Im having trouble keeping trains coupled as they go up and it turns into a runaway train with no engine. I will remake the hill but with no garde. I will have pics soon.

Taylor, when you look at your layout and think about having twice the railroad in the same space, n scale is the best  cdog565, bachmann track is pretty good, just solder the joiners and use feeder wires.

Everyone’s back! Woohoo! [8D]

Before leaving for Vermont for the weekend, I was down in the basement for an afternoon shooting. Here’s some photos.

I’m also working on the WRS website, expanding the Operations page to include more detailed description of each regularly schedule train.

Tyler, sweet shots. Well, here’s some pics of what I’ve been up to today. sorry for the blur, took me maybe a minute total using my cell phone, just wanted to grab some quick shots: looking down the main: The retention pond (still got a lot to do): I think I’ll add this curve to the yard and have it continue onto a shelf at some point. then in the future build a sectional yard. then this yard will function only to serve the North Branch industrial district, there will be a train from the other yard (the ANRR’s head yard) to the end of the line (which will be another town named Peach Creek after the town where my all-time favorite cartoon Ed Edd N Eddy was set) and will make set outs on both sides of the layout. More on the ops once I have it all thought out. N-JOY!
