Since many people have their favorite railway’s logo on their avatar, I figured I would do the same and put a J-ball logo, I like how it looks! I’ll try getting a better photo of a J-ball logo and put it on there to get a even better looking logo.
Here it is passing through a random wooded area near Shorewood, it was doing a pretty good speed, at least for the IRL, maybe 25 MPH or so. I kinda like this shot and I may have to go back and get it again. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474918
Here it is going through Minooka in perfect lighting conditions, nothing like bring orange EJ&E contrasting against snow in perfect light. Here are three photos of it there.
Well i just got done editing my pics from the weekend. i took a trip to milwaukee to visit my grandma so i got some shots in a few places.
Started out in Fond du lac where i decided to see what CN was doing at the yard & it was actually busy for once
Some NB setting out some cars
for some reason i like shooting trailing units partially since this had IC markings plus i been documented on paper all engines i shot.
2 WC switchers work
i call this one big smoke
later that day
i wound up on Milwaukee’s north side by fonda siding where UP sides the sheboygan coal trains so i snapped a pic, no one was up there shoulda seen if the door was unlocked.
sunday i wanted to watch so i head to where the CP & CN meet as i pull in a CN NB goes by so i speed to weyer rd
Yeah, let’s not give railfans a bad name… We already have one because of the Chatsworth wreck (engineer was apparently texting railfans a few minutes before the crash) and that incident in Chicago with the 18 year old being allowed to operate the train…
I went railfanning last night and caught some MBTA action at night in Boston! Videos will be up soon, but my camera card reader is broken, so no photos for now…
This was taken after dark, with the lights of the city and the Leonard P. Zakim Bridge in the background. The first clip is the Red Line (Bombardier subway cars) crossing the Longfellow Bridge over the Charles River, and the others are of the Green Line (Kinki-Sharyo and Breda light rail vehicles) crossing the Charles River Dam Viaduct. All of these clips were taken from the top floor of the Boston Museum of Science parking garage around 9:45 PM last night.
Sorry about the occasional shake; I was without a tripod, and trying to manually focus (my camera’s automatic focus fails at night), zoom, pan, and try to compose the scene while keeping the camera steady is not easy!
I rebooted the computer and now the card reader works fine…
After finding out that the little point-and-shoot camera can’t shoot with a fast enough shutter speed to capture the train without blur, I used it to my advantage… This first one is a pan shot.
And on this one I attempted to capture the speed of the train…
I went out on the EJ&E today. No trains came but I noticed something at each crosssing. Every crossing in this area has two blue signs up, each saying “Caution: Increased train traffic”.
Yeah, I care more about quality, not quantity. CN runs the same junk as BNSF and UP, just in a different color. I just heard a CN hi-railer call in on my scanner not too long ago… Times are already changing after just two days. Heck, there’s a SW1001 switching Joliet, that is something I plan on seeing as the J assigned those to Gary. This is probably due to USS keeping all but 4 of the SW1200s.
The picture you got onto Railpictures Brent is nice. That’s one of the early SD60F’s from '85, which looks identical to the now retired/storage SD50F’s.
I have photos from Saturday, including a nice rainbow of power. I’ll do a “trip report” style, although I didn’t take too many photos, still like concentrating on making great video, not so-so photo and video.
Well today I had a choice to make, there were two trains sitting at Rockdale, a westbound CSX manifest or the eastbound IAIS ethanol train. I decided to skip the IAIS and go after CSX, the reason being IAIS had a GEVO on it while CSX had a duo of SD40-2s on the front and a freshly repainted GP15T on the rear. I caught it passing the depot at Morris. The vid should be up anytime now and pics will be coming later,
Well, today was a great day, as the train traffic has picked up considerably this week, and has allowed me to catch quite a few trains.
BNSF SD70MAC 9886 leads an eastbound coal train down the Brainerd Sub. Another MAC, 8820, is trailing.
And at the tail end of everything is the crown jewel. SD70ACE 9259 serves as the DPU. Though I’d have loved to see this at the point, simply catching the ACE is good enough for now.
Don’t fret, I was pulled over on the shoulder of the road when I took this.
At this point, my front right wheel became a bit buried in the snow. It took a few minutes, but I got out with no harm done.
Heck, right now I wouldn’t be shocked if CN sent some EJ&E engines away, traffic is so down here it’s not even funny. They probably could run it with half of the SD38-2s. However, you already are spoiled with good power in Duluth so I think the EJ&Es should stay here so I at least have something good!
The crossing bell also dates back to Rock Island days, for sure a throwback in time. Also you can easily see where the second track used to cross the road!
Yeah I watched the vid of 1502’s P5 horn, I was hoping it would be a O/C P5 but it was a N/C P5. Still pretty rare for a CSX though. I was hoping the SD40-2 leading would have a RS5T but it had a K5LA. Oh well, I’m not going to complain about a duo of SD40-2s just because of the horn.
My night couldn’t have been better…I was at Spirit Mountain…Duluth’s ski hill…and guess who’s main line parallels the slopes…the DMIR…I was serenaded by 645’s climbing the hill and dynamic brakes whining as one train descended…I caught the second train but didn’t have my camera…my two favorite things in the world…skiing and the classic EMD…at the same time it was great!
