Now I don’t want to make it sound like I don’t enjoy the 6200’s I love that I can live in 2nd generation heaven however I’m just saying for this particular service they haven’t blended well in the pool up here performance wise…but on the SD70I note there was one in proctor not to long ago to have crews familiarize themselves with the unit…what that means idk
I believe they took one look at it and scrapped it. Misunderstadning you see…[:-,][:-^]
Yea, I’m not complaining about the SD40-2s they sent up there.
Hey, has any one heard of BNSF storing the 7000-7100 and 7800-8000 series SD40-2s? It seems like every railroad is storing or retiring SD40-2s.
Jordan, I said something about that in one of my shots I got a few days back. Two Green 7000’s and a 71XX were on the train, probably the last time I ever see three together again on the BN (in that series). But yes, they are all supposed to be gone ASAP.
Alec
I heard two different rumors. One was that BNSF was going to retire all but 4 SD40-2s that would be kept for MOW service. Another rumor said a couple hundred a year were supposed to go until they are all gone. Right now I am believing the second rumor a lot more than the first one, but the timeline for both was sometime in February. While I don’t think all of the SD40-2s will be retired and find the second rumor more believable, get your shots of BNSF SD40-2s now just in case! If BNSF’s SD40-2s do go, it will just be a matter of time until the SD40-2 is wiped off all class one railways. I think CP and NS will be the last two as many of UP’s are already gone, CSX has been slowly getting rid of their, CN has been storing them left and right, now BNSF’s are threatened with retirement also.
Well, after a slow start to the year, I finally caught a freight local at the twilight of dusk. Nothing incredibly noteworthy(Bluebonnet GP38 leading another Geep of cascade paint).
Headed up to Proctor Tuesday, and for the first time since I’ve been heading up there for the last eight months or so, there wasn’t any power whatsoever up there. While observing everything from the north side bridge, I heard a not so distant whistle, but being unfamiliar with that area, I chose to let it go. After taking the wife to her appointment, we headed back, and after seeing what looked to be hoodlights, we went back to the bridge, which leads us to a rather comical story.
As we cross over the bridge to see what there is to see, I notice two hoodlights instead of one. The first set starts to move, and I move into position to put the video on it. However, the snow piled up at the end of the bridge from the plows going through made for a crappy position(with a decent risk of falling). I raced across to the other side hoping for a better position, only to find the same problem on the other side. Determined to not get shut out, I clutch the chainlink fence for stability, and unleash a flurry of Wanderlei Silva-esque stomps to the snow, packing a hole deep enough to get a great shot of B&LE 909 leading a Limestone train north, assisted by IC 6263 and DM&IR 400.
Well, here’s the first DMIR SD38-2 to be repainted in CN colors…I liked the Maroon better…

Compared to this only 6 months before.

I don’t like that CN has basically taken away any visual evicence of the DM&IR other than the small initials under the cab. CN took away the maroon paint and even replaced the numberboards with their own kind, something that they never did with the IC fleet. You’d almost never think that used to be maroon.
I dread the day CN repaints the first EJ&E engine, just thinking of that makes me sick, YUCK!
I finally caught my first EJ&E train today, and you know the economy is bad when the train is carrying ONE car!
Here is the lead engine of the J train. BONUS! EJ&E 665 is on the point! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1451594 You can imagine as soon as I heard the number 665 mentioned on my scanner I bolted out the door for the car.
Another bonus! EJ&E GP38-2 703 trails! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1451595 I hope it isn’t going to Gary for another problem, it’s probably time for it’s 92 day inspection at Joliet.
Good news!
OCR 1842 and 1859 have been sold to the Trillium Railway. Hopefully they will see good use, and not be a parts source, or sold for scrap or something.
Judging by the MLW on the home page of their website they might’ve found a good home. They could go take a good look around Homewood because there are plenty of MLWs sitting there. Hopefully the rest will be sold too, there are many places they could go, Delaware Lackawanna is the first that comes to my mind.
Well, here’s a better roster shot of DMIR 212.

Robby, nice catch on the J, I know you’ve been wanting to get them for a while.
I’m glad the OCRR Alcos may have found a good home.
At least the sound will stay the same…non turbo 645 with P5…close eyes ad with it was 5 yrs ago is what it will come down to.
Jordan…Long time no talk…I think I might be in town near the end of this month…How has the CN been running??? Here in De Pere there running eh eh…Ya will have to text me sometime when ya see me on MSN or something…Maybe I’ll catch ya trackside in town…
Well, I did get information on why the 703 is down here, it’s leaking oil for about the fourth time within a year. Just another example of 703 doing what it does best, annoy the heck out of the EJ&E. I thought 703 would be the last J unit left but it looks like it’s going to transfer over to CN dead at Gary, a excellent start to its career with CN (ends sarcasm).
J, the only train you’ll be able to catch is the morning south bound. They changed the names of the trains too, the south bound isn’t the 408 anymore, it’s the 589. I’m not sure what the north bound is called, but I think that’s the 589 also. All the other trains run in the dark. The switcher doesn’t run a whole lot anymore with the slow down of 3M in winter.
Robby, I think that GP38 is going to be the first to go on CN… either CN rebuilds it, or CN will retire it.
Wow…That sounds like a big change in that town…What happened??? Did they change it all cause of to many RR fans by the yard to shoot trains in the day??? LOL…J/K…But wow…Thats crazzie that things are changing…I’ll have to see what I can catch when I makes er to town…You know what time the NB leaves by chance??? Do you guys run with the new thing called “track authority” instead of TW’s?? Ya might have said something way back when they first came out but I am not going to dig back thru all these posts to see if ya did or nots…They got rid of TW’s here and now went all to that track authority stuff…You can still hear the conductors still say TW and then catch them selves and say track authority…Also I see they went to bigger numbers in the 10,000 series is it on them track authority things…Anywho…Catch ya on the flip side…
I didn’t really feel like retyping this so, here it is in whole, from CRO. Some is old news, some is repeated, some is new news, both good and bad, but mostly bad…
CN - QUEBEC RAILWAY CORPORATION (QRC) Updates: During the first week of December, the only NBEC units actually working on the railway were the 6900-series SD40’s. As reported last month in CRO, NBEC SD40 6909 is currently at the SYDNEY COAL RAILWAY Shops for repairs. During the month of December, CN began training conductors at Moncton, NB, and have hired back some others. CN power is now seen all over NBEC, for example: CN C44-9W’s, GP40-2LW’s, SD40-2W’s and SD75I’s are now on NBEC Trains 402 and 403. The CN GP40-2LW’s assigned to Bathurst, NB., are 9402, 9461, and 9513. As many of our readers are aware, many of the units on the NBEC roster never actually ran on NBEC, or have not run for years, or were purchased as parts sources only. It is the same story on the OTTAWA CENTRAL. By mid-December four CN units replaced the outgoing OCRR MLW’s: CN GP40-2LW’s 9416, 9433, 9455 and 9525. In late December near press time, CN 9416 suffered a failure, and was expediently replaced by CN GP9RM 7054.
By late December, the following QRC MLW’s had arrived at Woodcrest from Toronto: RS18u’s, 1818m 1824, 1828, 1840, 1846, 1854, 1865. According to some reports we received, RS18u’s 1828 and 1865 are still operational. On December 28th, the following QRC units were in Toronto and had not yet moved to Woodcrest; RS18u’s 1814, 1815, 1816, 1834, 1838, 1854, 1865, 1866, and C424m’s 4202, 4203, 4204, 4210, and 4214. The lettering “ERS” on one of the C424m long hood’s is for Quebec Railway Corporation’s “Eastern Rail Service”,or in the French translation: SFEX = Services Ferroviares de l’Est. <
Robby, They are currently “keeping” the 63XX’s,67,68, and 69XX series SD40-2’s on the BN. The first rumor is ridiculous, there is no way anyone that knows anything would say that. The second rumor is what is going to happen on all railroads, they will replace them until there gone. No other way to do it…
And I guess I must have missed it but when in the hell did CN get the NBEC?
Alec (DMIR 212 looks very nice, even though most wont admit it!)
I believe it was December 1st, or around there.
It is true the few missabe units left look shabby to say the least…it is painful to say that but its true lol
