Noah: That loco is an MBTA GP40MC, rebuilt from a CN GP40-2W 9533. I agree, those are pretty neat locos!

Joe: I believe those are rebuilt Pullman-Standard cars. There are actually two types of cars in that train, the Pullman-Standard coaches and cab car, and one other car (MBB?) closest to the locomotive. One of those is required in all trains because of the of the restroom facilities.

Well i just got some Sweet Shots from town of the 531

i heard them go by earlier & they were goin to manawa so i figured id wait for them to come back so bout a hour later i hear them go by so i got my boots on & scaddled into town. i tired using the snow scene option on my camera worked pretty well.

i figured it would be the IC 3103 & sure enough it was.

they stopped &the engineer got out & went to kwik trip so i went to the snowbank on the rd & got a pic

snow

overall nice shots

Neat snow shots Brent! Love that 4th one with the crew member riding the loco steps![tup]

According to Wikipedia (if it’s correct), they were built by P-S. Bombardier acquired the design and built the CIIs for NJT.

[edit] Comet II (Shoreliner I)

MBTA Cab Car #1627
from Type Comet II in Lynn, Massachusetts

These cars feature high doors with traps for use at both low-platform and high-platform stations. This series was produced in several variations, the first of these being the MBTA’s BTC-1 and CTC-1

Ok guys, you want some new stuff, here is one:

Not too impressive visually, but still fun.

Noah, I love the shots! Keep them coming!

Today I went to the Stevens Point Model railroad show. While getting ready to leave, I remembered that a BCOL unit was hanging around the area. I asked Brent where she was at the time. He said that she was in Wisconsin Rapids, working the line from Rapids-Nekoosa. I decided to swing down to Rapids and see if I had any luck finding her.

When we arrived in Rapids, the first thing that was there was WC 3022. This was one of the WC GP40s I needed to complete my roster. So I gladly look a shot of her, even though I was on the wrong side of the tracks.

After driving around and getting to know the area a little more, we found the other side of the yard. My dad and I where discussing where we might go next to find her, when through a string of freight cars I see a Dark Blue Dash 9. Sure enough it was BCOL 4646. I didn’t get a shot of her at first, but they pulled a string of cars out, and then I got a dark roster shot.

After pulling up the Valley Sub a ways, they backed down the old CNW to drop off some cars.

After dropping off there cars, another opportunity came when they needed to be refueled. I bagged a couple more shots.

At Stevens Point, nothing special was sitting around.

At the show I picked up a WC magazine, and a WC ACF covered hopper.

All in all it was a good day.

Nice shots Jordan!

I’ve seen a few BC Rail units around. They ship them down here to be repaired, CN seems to like the service this little company has not too far from here.

Hmm that funny, as I was hunting down the B&LE #909 I heard a CN train departing Pokey with a BCOL unit in the lead.

I was able to Trace BCOL 4605 (C40-8M) to Stevens Point last night & now its in chicago. i wonder whats up w/ all these comming down.

From what I heard on the Illinirail BCOL 4605 led train Q118 down the old WC into Chicago yesterday. I would’ve liked to see it but I just didn’t have the time to head all the way up to Franklin Park.

Speaking of that BC unit…A guy from the area also caught the same one

Check his site out…He has some REALLY REALLY nice PIX

Well, with the demise of the EJ&E possibly just three days away. Here are some rumors I’ve heard.

SDMs/SD18: To be retired ASAP

SW1200s: Half to Gary Railway/Half to CN. Ones to CN to be retired ASAP.

Slugs: Same as SW1200s

SD38s: To be retired

SD38-2s: Integrated into CN’s fleet.

703: ???

The remaining switchers will go to Gary Railway.

The biggest question remains will the SD38-2s stay here or will they leave and head elsewhere on CN. I’ve heard dozens and dozens of rumors saying both and also what will happen to the 703. If I had to guess 703 will be integrated into CN’s large fleet of GP38-2s.

Unsuccessful chase today… well, kinda.

On the bus, while crossing over the tracks in Landing, a 4-6 car CV train being shoved by GP40PH-2 4110 (one of the ex-CNJ units) was pulling out of Lake Hopatcong. I was hoping that we would catch up with it and I would be able to see it in Mt. Arlingtion station from Rt. 80. But of course, there was traffic, and we couldn’t make it the mile to Mt. Arlington before it left. [sigh]

A train chase on the school bus?[:P]

Robby: At least the SD38-2s will stick around, albeit in CN paint…

That’s why I said kinda. And we technically were chasing it from Landing to Denville, but the tracks curve away from Rt. 80 just after Mt. Arlington.

Seems about right Robby…now the 703. Personally, I don’t know how long CN is going to keep her. With all the oil leaks, she might just end up like the DMIR 212, and get repainted after a major overhaul, or CN will retire her after a major failure. I’m not sure; I guess I could go both ways.

What’s the story with the Gary Railway?

As far as I can tell from reading a little bit, this railway will be created to take over the leftover track and operations that CN doesn’t want, like the US Steel Plants. How far am I off?

Maybe you know some inside sources there Robby.

Now a far look into the future, and another question.

Is anyone here an NRHS member?

Just wondering, because I am already planning to become a student member, and head down to the 2010 convention in Scranton. Hopefully, there will be 2-4 steam locomotives working there. (You have the two at Steamtown, the Blue Mountain & Reading’s rebuilt locomotive, and maybe Susquehanna’s Chinese steamer.

It would be a 6 hour + drive, but I think it would be worth it. Conventions last an entire week, so it’s not like it would be a short weekend event.

I think you’re close enough Ty!

Me and Kale get to host the darn thing this year, so you should all come up!

Sounds neat Alex, I’d love to go! Is it just for NRHS mebers though? Maybe you could PM me some more information?

Scranton’s about a two hour drive from here. In fact, I was at steamtown last month. Hey, maybe I can take a train there- oh wait, NJT is never going to rebuild the cutoff, I forgot.
