Stopping at the Tehachapi loop yesterday for a short train-watch/picture break, I noticed a few freight car trucks on the ground outside the loop east of the overcrossing. Being more interested in the two or three BNSF trains coming through, I didn’t notice behind some trees the two box cars inside the loop, one on its side and one upright until I looked at the pictures in my computer last night.
It sounds like (I couldn’t see from the monument area) there is a turnout in the area where the cars were sitting, so I am suspecting one of the cars climbed a rail there and pitched over, taking one more with it. Anyway, there were several pieces of equipment involved in putting things right as the trains moved through.
