The Cornerstone Mountain Lumber Co. mill has a small power house with smokestacks - were these power plants supplying steam? Burning wood in the boilers or ?? On my layout, the ideal spot for this power plant is ‘across the tracks’ from the mill - looks interesting but unlikely.
Supposedly the mill prototyped was steam-driven at one time; hence my questions.
If you read that whole page, in numerous locations it notes that the power was supplied by burning saw dust and other mill wood waste. Towards the bottom of that page, it shows the converyers used to bring this material to the boilers (powerhouse).
Seems unlikely the powerhouse would be across the tracks from the mill.
I read that page ‘back then’, but it went right over my head about the waste and chips fueling the furnaces. The kit also includes a (quite b*tt-ugly) sawdust burner - that puzzles me if all the wood waste fueled the fires. Oh, well.
As for placing the power house, having it across the tracks is unlikley, but it sure eases the space crunch inside the loop of track. I had planned it as an inside-the-tunnel return loop, but now it’s home to the sawmill instead - “the best laid plans” and all that …
Wondering now if I should broaden/lengthen that curve a little while it’s still relatively easy or just disguise it with scenery
