Things are starting to look like a world in the canyon. Here is the first attempt at Yosemite falls. This is white microfiber pulled and glued to a stiff white cloth.

Here are the timbers for the trestle. I cut them from Walnut to see what that may look like. I cut the slabs to scale thickness on a table saw and to demension with a band saw.

I also started to experment with Suguaro cactus. These are made with plastic clay with a headless pin in the stem for stability and planting. I think I will need better detail for the close ones.

Looking good! I like the trestle and the falls are great! Thanks for sharing the pics.
What technique and process are you using for the terraforming?
Looks great! I am looking forward to seeing the finished product. Keep the pics comming. Thanks Mike
well i remember back when them cliffs were just slabs of pink foam . let me tell ya , those were the days !
that scene sure looks great , what it really needs now is a train going across that bridge
the cactii look good too , you need to add some holes and broken limbs to get even more realistic . some way to add tiny needles would be awesome [:)]
The falls look great photographically, you may want to darken the rock behind the falls to make it look wet from the falls. The cactus are shaped perfectly but maybe a little more gray green in color at leaast for photos. Thats me trying to be constructive and not too nitpicky. I’m not trying to be the Simon Cowell of Modelrailroading. I really like your work Art and wish I could be as motivated. I specially like your encouraging words to the youngsters who write in. Bill
ARTHILL,
FYI.
Just a quick question concerning the Saguaro cacti.
Are you planning to use them in conjunction with Yosemite.
The reason I ask there are no Saguaro in California except for a very, very few near the Arizona and/or Mexico borders.
No Suguaro in Yosemite, right. One of the wormholes is at the end of the steel trestle and it jumps to the Pheonix area as it passes the ridge. It will model that ridge where, coming down from Flagstaff, you go around that corner and all of a sudden there are Suguaro everyplace.
Forced perspective works in many ways in my world, and to have a railroad that goes from Northern Minnesota to Arizona in one basement means compressing some areas a lot through the creative use of wormhole technology.
There have been pics with trains and there will be more as I get more into the details. Color washes will take a couple of weeks to get figured out.
Sounds like you are going to have a very exciting layout Art.
Anxious to see pictures.
As a side note: Did you get the Spellchecker working?
