Why do I anticipate that the NIMBYS and environmentalists will be savage in their opposition?
They can also send the oil to China.
The Enviro-Nazies want to close the Port of Vancouver, WA to any development or gainful economic activity as it might harm the salmon and sea lions in close proximity. The E-N’s are also busily undermining hopes of the port being also used as a tranloading location for western coal to be shipped to China.
Have faith the E-N’s will win and we are all doomed.
Why? Because they raise serious and legitimate concerns. It’s easy to dismiss something when it’s not happening in one’s own back yard. I live in the area impacted. I have worked for the railroad that will be carrying the oil. Unfortunately, the industries involved (oil, mining, railroads) are percieved by many to have a poor environmental track record . There have been a number of fatal “incidents” (explosions) at area refineries as well.
Add the10-12 coal trains -round trip- over the same route and the fact that all this fossil fuel will be traveling through the Rockies, Cascades, along the Columbia River and Puget Sound (which has been experiencing an increasing number of earthslides along the right of way).
Despite no major catastrophies so far, all it takes is once and it’s “Fort Worth, we have a problem!”
This will negatively impact many, but benefit few. Folks in the Northwest are proud of the beautiful environment we have been entrusted. We take this stewardship seriously.
