I’ve painted a couple of items with Poly Scale acrylic and Testors acrylic. I would like to dull the finish however when I brushed on some Testors Dullcote to test , it ate some paint off. I also sprayed some Krylon Matte Finish and it did the same thing. If I apply a thin layer of Dullcote with an airbrush will it eat the paint off? Is there a better alternative for acylic paints?
A thin coat of Dullcote shouldn’t react with acrylic paints, either from a spray can or an airbrush.
If you’re having trouble with Dullcote, there are acrylic clear flat finishes available from Polly Scale, Testors, and Modelflex. I have used all three with decent results, and generally use Testors because it’s the easiest to obtain locally.
Arylic flat finishes dry fast, so be very careful not to overdo it. I thin the Testors finish about 30-40% with Polly S airbru***hinner for spraying, and it works very well.
