Texas Big Boy move postponed until July

ENGINEERS OPERATING BIG BOYS RECEIVED AN EXTRA SO MUCH PER MILE MORE THAN OTHER ENGINEERS. OBSERVING A BIG BOY IN ACTION WAS IMPRINTED ON AND IN YOUR MIND AS NOTHING ELSE COULD…ALWAYS IN YOUR MIND.

I hope I can live long enough to see a Big Boy run again. Nothing is impossible!

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. The UP Steam Shop seems dubious that a Big Boy actually will run again, and 3985 is still sidelined needing major repairs and no sure timetable as to when it may be running again, if at all. To many times us steam enthusiasts forget one of the very reasons that steam was replaced by diesel, and that’s the extreme expense of intensive labor required to keep them running.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see a Big Boy under steam again, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Right now, I would really like to see the Challenger running again!

WHat really imprinted it in your mind was the sound; of the engine with all the generators humming and that beautiful Steamboat whistle, especially from miles away as it wafted across the Morgan Valley of Utah or over Sherman Hill. Can’t wait to see the Pomona Big Boy in action once again… Let NS have their kodachrome heritage fleet…I’ll take UP’s Steam fleet any day…A Northern (never retired 844) a Challenger 4-6-6-4 abd a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy…WOW!
