Texas Central selects two potential sites for Dallas station
I wonder if Texas Central considered using the existing station used by Amtrak, Trinity Rail, & DART. It’s downtown & has connections
It sounds like they want their own station, for the real estate development possibilities.
The second location site, near the convention center is just south of Dallas Union Station, and on the DART Red and Blue lines.
Does the current Union Station site have adequate parking? Transit connections are necessary, but so is adequate parking and rental cars. Airport connections would be helpful too.
The optimal location for a new railway terminal in Houston is downtown. An ideal site is north of Minute Maid Park (where the former headhouse of Union Station is located as a facade) near the George R Brown Convention Centre, sports venues, hotels, office buildings, and the theatre district.
To locate away from downtown like the current Amtrak station would defeat the advantage of passenger trains to link central business districts.
