The benefits derived from these promising financial figures should shutup the NIMBY’s.
The NIMBY’s in this case are ranchers who would have their ranches cut in half but get no benefits.
@GEORGE H FORBES - Of course they get benefits, it’s unconstitutional to seize someone’s property through eminent domain without just compensation, and given Texas Central is trying to negotiate with property owners without using ED, it’s safe to suggest the ranchers will be compensated far more than their lost property would have been worth.
And that’s ignoring the long term environmental and economic advantages high speed rail will bring to all Texans.
And while I see the emotional case in some cases - I can understand it if your home that you’ve lived in for 50 years is about to be demolished to make way for a new Interstate - having a field you strictly use for grazing cattle cut in half to make way for a train? Doesn’t cut it. This is just people complaining because they hate change, not because they won’t benefit from it.
I hope its true, I hope they build it BUT when I hear or read estimates on how it can “benefit” the community, its most often the opposite. I don’t wanna p in anyone’s cereal but… I heard that TOO many times here in South Florida and in Chicago, where I grew up. I truly hope this works out, I really do!
George, I could easily be mistaken but thought the majority of the alignment is either along interstate right of way and or utility corridor.
HSR doesn’t work in this country. And the article is full of crap.
“HSR doesn’t work in this country”
How would you know? There’s no true HSR in the country. Try it first and see.
