Y’all need to remember: this is Texas, not California. If a Texan doesn’t like something, he just runs over it.
M&M–gee, negative much? I would love to see high-speed rail anywhere in this country just to prove what a boon it would be to our economy and transportation system.
A key part of the Texas plan is that it will not use any Federal money, which will allow them to avoid the “buy American” requirement of Federal funding. They estimate that buying trains made in Japan will save them about one-third of the cost vs. buying trains built by their Japanese partner in an American factory, as this will avoid the high start-up costs of establishing a factory here.
A lot of these NIMBY’s are the same libertarian lunatics who complain about “frivilous lawsuits”.Just remember when you point the finger at somebody, three others are pointing back at you. The high speed rail is a lot better deal, especially if it’s going to be built by private enterprise, than selling off our interstate highway system to greedy toll road hogs. If the Michelin man is ringing doorbells for a coast-to-coast autobahn, as a radio ad claimed a few years ago, why has he not ponied up the money and built it by now?
