Another demonstration of failed environ-mental policy. Ban the building of oil pipelines by executive order? No problem, as those evil oil companies turn to the railroads. Next year, or the year after, or sometime in the future, expect the for-profit freight railroads to be the target of the eco-terrorists, much as the oil and pipeline companies are today.
man, that train is one “pretty woman!”
OK, for those that don’t get it, Roy Orbison is from Wink…
This boom in U.S. oil production is a golden opportunity for rail to beat pipelines at their own game by selling rail’s geographic flexibility as production sites increase and change location. Maybe even more importantly, rail can easily shift delivery to the most needed terminals. As for Canadian tar sands oil, leave that truly dirty stuff in the ground.
Let’s just shut everything down and go live in caves lite and heated with a campfire of sticks. If we have to back down on any projects we are working on then the eco-terrorists win.
Regarding the request for an injunction by CN against the first nations blocking rails, goes on deaf ears, because nobody has the guts to stand up to them (first nations). The real problem is that the present canadian government has no ‘savoy’ also to stand up to the first nation’s chiefs.
Real sad situation—good luck CN !
I’m in the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi) and they are a bit worried about all that North American oil. While they are working hard to diversify their economy thru banking and transportation, among other things, they still get incredible amounts of income from oil! Interestingly, they’ve embarked on a from-the-ground-up project to build a 1200-km (about 750-mi) standard-gauge rail system in a country the size of Maine. The first railcars are delivered and now they’re waiting on their first SD-70’s from EMD.
A consortium of the DOJ, EPA, & the Dept of the Interior can be expected to soon do their best to scuttle all this development by the oil & gas industry, yet take credit for the now improving situation with our supplies pf oil & natural gas. I hope they don;t target the railroads again.
