Thai trains

I’ d like to share some more Thai trains from my collections

  1. Daewoo air conditoned diesel railcar.

  1. British Rail Engineering (BREL) Class 158 Diesel railcar, these trains make the term “sprinter” a household word due to its top speed of 120 km/h.

  1. Hitachi Diesel-electric loco 2250 Hp (derated from 2900hp).

  1. Tokyusharyo-Nipponsharyo-Hitachi diesel railcar 235Hp.

  1. Krupp diesel-hydraulic loco 1500Hp.

  1. Henschel diesel-hydraulic switcher loco shuffling some coach.

  1. General Electric Cm22-7i 2250Hp from 2 Cummins KTA50L. (I still wonder how many Dash 7s still running on US rail?)

And for all steam fan (drumroll and some fanfare please), SRT still keep two steamer in excursion service. First, no. 824, a Pacific(4-6-2) and 953 a Mikado (2-8-2).

please feel free to comment on these pictures

thanks for the pics - my trips to Thailand have been to short for any railfanning.

Great pictures! [tup]

I noticed that all of the pictures were of passenger rail. How much freight traffic is there?

Very nice photos!

Am I correct in suspecting more than a little Japanese influence in the design of the steamers? The machinery and water pump on the 2-8-2 bear a remarkable resemblance to a JNR D51, and the combined sand/steam dome does also.

Ask and ye shall recive

An oil train

some cement trains

The rest of freight trains run in the darkness of the night so I couldn’t shoot them.[banghead]

Both steam loco were built in Japan by Hitachi and Japan Association of Railway Industry for SRT.

What are the primary industries for freight traffic?

Also, do most freights run at night because of the heavy passenger traffic during the day?

Thanks for the photos!!! [tup]

there are three cement company hauling their stuff (cement, fly ash etc.) and a petroleum product company hauling its product and raw materials. And SRT has a contract with KTM Berhad to haul some steel trains from Padang Besar and a container service.

Yes, passenger service is very traffic intensive on some major line so they have to hold frieghts for the night. and some…decided that one cause of our notorious traffic gridlock was caused by railroad so, they had SRT throttle back some of the train traffic thru city center to 1 train per 10 minutes. What were they smoking or had they ingested?[banghead][soapbox]

Thanks, nice pictures!

Do you have more?

greetings,

Marc Immeker

Stay tuned for a steam excursion review on 26/03/2007 if I dont have any conflicting appointments.
