Thanks, Kalmbach, for Forum Standards!

I believe Kalmbach, a legal corporation that owns this website, has a right to set standards as to others’ use of this website. After all, it’s Kalmbach’s investment, and they thrive or die financially as a consequence of their offerings and policies. If officers of Kalmbach or its designated responsible ones decree a certain use policy, that policy hardly infringes on anyone’s rights, as anyone can go and fork out THEIR OWN MONEY and start a website with forums if they so choose. While I haven’t always agreed with Kalmbach’s policies, I believe it is their right to so set those polices, and applaud them for setting common decency standards that the far majority of us agree with and appreciate.

Agreed.

Congrats…

Makes perfect sense to me.

In most cases, being a member of a forum is a privilege, not a right and therefore implies no right to freedom of speech. By the act of registering to participate in a forum, it is reasonable to infer consent to follow the rules and regulations of that forum.

There is no expected guarantee of freedom of speech here; although save for cuss words no one is being censored or being prevented from expressing their thoughts – any thoughts. However, expressed thoughts that are deemed to be patently offensive or violating the forum rules (like political or religious rants) will be removed – an act which still does not make it a freedom of speech issue. And being suspended or permanently banned from the forum for breaking the rules does not violate anyone’s First Amendment rights, either.

However, an individual on his/her own personal web page is protected (somewhat, with reservations) by the First Amendment; of course, this does not mean his/her actions are immune from any criminal charges or civil lawsuits arising from those actions.

It would be nice if the software didn’t go **** when you type in the word for the valve at the end of the car that controls the air…

Getting better at figuring out how to post pictures and links. Not as easy as other forums, but I am learning.
