I haven’t always been impressed with the online content MR posts on their site to support each month’s issue, but this month was an exception. Many modern MRR authors have referred to Frank Ellison’s “Art of Model Railroading” series, but having no source for 1944 issues of MR, I was left in the dark as to why this series was so influential. Finally, here it is, in it’s entirety, among this month’s online content.
I haven’t read the whole series yet, so I don’t know whether it will have the same impact on me as it apparently has had on others. Most likely, I will look at the points he makes and go, “Well, Duh!” but that will certainly be because so many other MRRs have incorporated his ideas into their articles/layouts over the years to the point that they have become “common knowledge”.
Anyway, thanks to MR for posting this series and finally filling in the blanks for me.
