Just wondering

In your opinion, of the 1st class RR’s in US, which have the best:

  1. quality of tracks, maintenance of tracks etc.

  2. maintenance of locomotives, repairs, keeping everything smooth and reliable

  3. Investment in new technology (new locomotives and upgrading old ones).

  4. Reliability of service, on time, 100% reliable, any time anywhere. Regardless of cost that is.

and PLEASE, explain your choice with more than 1 word per question. I want to read some interesting thoughts about this from you. And also, please mention your secon choice.

  1. Im probably gonna go with BNSF on this one. 2. Norfolk Southern, they seem like they do some pretty good stuff with there engines. 3. Union Pacific. They pretty much buy anything that comes out. 4. Hmmm, not BNSF,not NS,not CSX,not UP,not CN,not CP,not KCS either… So im going for the late but still great Wisconsin Central. Even though they never were officially a class 1, they could have been. They stuck back in the regional group so they wouldnt have to pass all of the Class 1 regulations. Alec

Isn’t NS the one with all them blown turbos? What’s up with that anyway?

They heard somewere that railfans like the sound of nonturbo first gen. units and wanted to do some good pr but half a**ed.[swg]

I’ve only heard one opinion so far…

The fact that UP is among the first to buy new engines I could see so far myself, because everytime I search for pictures of new engines, UP comes up.

But is it certain that BNSF has best tracks? What about UP, how are theirs? (NS, others?)

I will say that I haven’t recently seen any bad BNSF, UP, or NS track. Of course, I live in an area where their lines are busy, and the trains move!

I do, however, know of a couple of major railroads whose trackage would definitely keep them out of the running. I won’t mention their names here (want to keep some of the few friends I have!), but I have talked about one of them recently on another thread.
