I find statements clearly made and that DO NOT DEVIATE from a topic discussion theme to be refreshing, and show skill and insight on the part of a forum contributor. Perhaps some find scatterbrain irrelevancy appealing, but I sure don’t. Post brevity (when possible) also demonstrates thoughtfulness, and is a courtesy toward attracted readers.
After you get a few stars under your name you might change your mind. There is alot of joking around in the forums by members who contribute on a regular basis. It sorta becomes a family and we look forward to each others comments. We do joke, and sometimes we even talk about trains. But you know the saying – all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
By the way, many of us email each other on a regular basis, have chat sessions away from the forums, and some of us even write and call each other on the phone. As time goes on you will feel the family atmosphere (hopefully) and join in.

first of all I welcome you to the forums.I could give you enough tech data and info about railroads to last you for years but that would be boring.We like to poke fun and have fun while responding to questions.its true we get sidetracked but were more of a family type forum than a straight question and answer session.so if you have a question I will make my responses short and try to help you.if you would like to see pics of trains(mostly CSX equipment) email me.Again I welcome you and your input.

I agree with Jhhtrainsplanes and JoeKoh. I decided to post a topic two weeks ago, started posting on other topics. within a week, I had my first star, and a new hobby/family. I look forward to new posts by these four star posters, and have begun quoting the forum members to freinds and families. And of course, I spend most of my time reading…posts.

While the first does, on occasion deal with trains and railroading, the second has absolutly nothing to do with trains, yet it is one of the most read, and replied to posting here.
We do diverge from the topic on occasion, ok most of the time one of us cracks wise, but it would be a dry forum if we didnt.
I didnt come here for a purely technical forum, I can find rivet counters on a lot of other forums.
I come here because of one thing, and one thing only…
This forum fun and funny.
Trust me, after a day of flat yard switching, I need all the laughs I can get.
Look, listen and laugh along with us, in between the bad jokes, lousy grammer and horrid spelling, (no Kev, I am not reffering to you, you have a excuse)
you just might find a bunch of fun, knowledgable folks, who will go out of their way to research a answer to your question.
If it means you have to put up with bad jokes, well…

There’s nothing wrong with not being serious. I don’t know how many people have complained about our “behavior” on the formus. You dont have to be serious, and you can still get the answer to the question you have asked. I’ve made some good friends here, they are very good people. And I wish you the same, mr. Harrier. I’ve been posting here since August 1st, and I have learned a lot of new stuff.
Once again, you dont need to be a rocket scientist to post here. Everyone is welome.[:p]

You can always count on me for a straight answer to a straight question. And you may count on it being spelled correctly and hopefully understandable.
But it’s the “above and beyond” that’s most interesting. I’ve been able to dive into some unintentional openings left by unsuspecting people, and have managed to adopt a chocolate-loving “little sister”. I hope I’ve made some other friends, too…anybody who identified himself (or herself) to me as a forum poster while watching trains around here (Chicago’s western suburbs) would be warmly greeted.
The sister (or her cat), by the way, may have plenty to say by this time tomorrow.

Just try and imagine what the forum would be like if all anyone did was ask questions and answer questions. We need some fun in our lives to keep us all going and happy. If we didn’t have any fun in here, eventually we’d get going at each other like cats and mice or cats and dogs! The joking also keeps things from getting to stale. Just wait, you’ll get the feel for it sooner or later! But as CShaveRR does and says to do we should spell correctly as often as possible and give good and reasonable answers to questions.

Some that pursue certain topics are totally baffled at what they find, and say so in reply posts. They shake their heads because everyone is discussing everything but the subject topic theme that attracted them!
Within the Trainsmag.com side of this website, there are two forums, namely, (1) Railroads and (2) Trackside Guides. Maybe EVERYONE would be happy if a third forum was put into effect. Perhaps it could be entitled … For Irrelevancy Junkies Only, or The Release Valve, or Stupidity Corner. What about The Engine Wine Cellar?

I know a couple of people who would be glad to use them.
I have about 361 posts, and in only about 200 of them I have actually answered or asked some train-related questions. People don’t seem to hate me for that, neither they are thinking about kicking me out of here.
Some who rememeber Missouri : what was he talking about? From what I read mostly railroad related stuff. His posts lacked humor and concern for other members. But he got kicked off.
Sir, if you choose to go against the crowd, consider this: they will treat you how you treat them.
Why do people even bother to complain about this? Gosh, get a life.
I will be short and to the point! I don’t know that much about any facet of railroading to show any skill and insight. I can only ask silly questions because I can’t use terminology I don’t know. I like to learn, but I like to be entertained, too.
Ergo, I like this forum. And me thinks you are wound just a little too tight.
