On saturday morning we were treated to the “Liberty Limited” on route to Phila via the northeast corridor. If you aren’t familiar with this train, it’s discribed as “An all private car train hosting our servicemen and servicewomen from Walter Reed Army medical center and Bethesda Naval medical center to the 2005 Army/Navy football game.” The power were a pair of E-9’s painted in a Pennsy theme owned by a gentleman by the name of Bennet Levin (check spelling). these were followed by a collection of 16 private cars, some of the road names such as Chesapeak & Ohio, Louisville & Nashville and Pennsylvania. Not only was the power and cars so special and unique, so was its passengers…
I’ve posted some pics of this train on my personal web site. I shoot in a large file format for best printing results. You are welcome to down load. The web site is primarily dedicated to my boys street hockey league , but on the guestbook page I post train pics…
Nice shots…I see Jersey moms drive like Houston Moms…
Seriously, what a great idea…who ever thought it up should get some type of national recognition.
Thanks for the photos…
Ed
Isn’t it a little uncouth to hijack a thread about a special train for disabled vets with a self-promotion for shots that have been posted since September? I think a new thread for advertising your web page would have been in better taste.
The question was the best train your ever saw & I would certainly think that #3985 with its consist under power certainly qualifies as “best train”. [:p]
In response to edblysard…I saw a flyer stating that this trip was sponsored by " The American Railroad Industry, Americas Private Railroad Car Owners in collaboration with the Army War College Foundation Inc" . Apparently this was the first of what would hopefully be many more trips like it.
BEASLEYS, nice shots. I’m only a bit upset that I didn’t have knowledge of a train such as the Liberty Limited, coming to Philadelphia on the NEC. I only live about 15 mins from the NEC, and I also live in Philadelphia, so I’m really surprised I didn’t hear about that one. I need to get out more huh?..lol
I got a phone call at 10:00 that morning from a close friend who has the (pardon the pun) INSIDE TRACK on these kind of things. If you notice there were only 4 others at the Eddystone train station to witness this great train. In the future I will do my best to post this type of info here.
Um, it WASN’T a question, spbed, it was a STATEMENT. And one which I fully agree with- a special excursion with classic power being used for a good and charitable cause beats any other special any day.
