The "Big Hook" Added To The Kive Valley Roster

I picked this bad boy up (crane car and tender) at a local swap meet. Pretty sure it is a Ty-Bach-El-cheapo type crane. But it was a great deal and knew some day it would make a fun project. Well, 8 months later, I finally got around to it. I admit, nothing earth shattering in my upgrades or so called kit bashing. It was an easy, stress free project. Most of the time it will be sitting off to the side as a nice fill in peice. All though, I do plan on running at our club meets at the KVR MOW train.

Gave it the simple paint job. Wanted to get fancy with it but tried to keep it real… Its MOW peice so it would have been simple paint. Added some weathering to it to give ti some character… On went the KVR trade mark red white stripes for safety. Added a ladder for roof access. Kadee couplers to finsih it off. There is still quite a few more things I would like to add in the way of details, such railings, extras on the flat bed, maybe other saftey decals and the biggie, the reporting marks. (still working on those).

And finally, I got around to finishing up my KVR Shops located at the north end of the yard. My wife bought me the last 4 swithces I needed and got it all wired up. Still have quite a bit in the way of scenery, but after a year of waiting, it made a huge jump.

kewl!

That looks really good.

Canazar very, very Nice!!!

Well done. You have some accurate observations about MOW equipment, too. It is indeed hard to stifle those over decorating urges, but you did it. It’s a great looking piece of equipment. [bow]

Looks pretty good parked next to the shop.

Thanks guys[:D]!. Crandell, that has got be the shortest post you have ever done. In fact, I am thinking someone got into your room and hi-jacked your computer.

Yeah, it was tough not to go nuts… I think tonight though I will detail a bit more. Like paint the steps yellow and maybe a couple of more decals on the frame of the crane. I admit I added that track to the outside of shop just for that. I think it makes a great scene as it is one of hte first thing you see coming into the train room. All though, I learned the hard way to make sure you keep the boom down… Only took out one siganl bridge the first tiem around the layout. DOH!

Looks great next to the shop. Ours was steam powered and we kept it close to the shop hooked up to steam heat in the winter for freeze protection. Nice job…John
