The C&NW lives again!

Now, if only something like this could happen a little more often instead of never, that would be nice.

If only I had been there. It’s ggod to see some of them again. So few left :frowning:

hmmm the might have snuck through here last night.oh well they’ll be back
stay safe

It’s odd, recently I have been seeing them all over. Last weekend, #8575, Thursday, the last remaining GP38-2, now this. Makes you wonder?

Ya I flipped out when I saw them too when they came through my town. Eastbound of all things. BNSFrailfan.

I saw them in person in West Chicago Illinois, at around 11:10 AM, with a camera! One of them was #8064, the otherone I forgot.

BNSF railfan, when did you see them come through Blair?

Glen Ellyn, are sure about that #8064. C&NW never had a locomotive numbered 8064. The nearest was 8055 and that was an SD60. All of the GE’s were numbered in the 8500’s for the Dash 8s, the 8600’s and 8700’s for the Dash 9s and the 8800’s for the C44AC’s. Both of the units in your original post are Dash 9’s.

For the record, those two units were CNW 8646 and 8681.

You know I hate to say it But. I forgot already…OPS!
BNSFrailfan.

It was some where in the early morning some where’s before 9am.
BNSFrailfan.

Sorry, it was 8646.

Where & what year was this? [:p][:)][:)]

Well, considering that they went through Rochelle on April 9, 2005 (the date on the Webcam photograph), and Andrew’s post was dated April 9, I’d say that these were taken that day, this year.

Those shots were taken at West Chicago, Illinois (where Andrew, in a previous post, reported seeing them in person), at or near the Wood Street grade crossing, not too far east of the EJ&E diamond.

What is really weird is all the cool engines on the UP line. That same day, April 9, UP 3300 comes through a 1/2 hour after I leave.

[sigh] I miss the CNW. That was a GREAT railroad. If I ever requisition a Time Travel Machine, I’m spending a LOT of time on the CNW, and the CB&Q. Why can’t we have railroads like them anymore?

I saw 8681 here in December http://uptrain.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=2555 …THAT CONSIST WAS STAGED!!! WHEN ARE THEY GONNA COME SOUTH THROUGH DEXTER, MO!!! LET ME KNOW IF THEY ROLL SOUTH FROM DUPO OR COME NORTH FROM NORTH LITTLE ROCK!!!

Those pictures were lousy. Couldn’t see anything but the number. It’s good they’re keeping those together, whether it’s for technical reasons or just for sentimentality. ANybody here used to work for CNW? If so, you probably don’t have very high opinoins for UP. In any case, is there a way to find out where these units are now?

I know they aren’t that good…I just wanted to prove that they were here and I saw them. The number and the lack of UP yellow patch over it is the only thing that counts…that’s the reason there is more than one railfan…so another one may be more fortunate to catch it at a better time of day…I could have trespassed and gotten photos of it up close in the daylight…but it stayed north of the crew change point until it was almost dark…I have a reputation for being a fan that plays by the rules here and I’m not about to risk it for some photos that are “above lousy” status.

I don’t think the pictures are as lousy as your tact in addressing them. We’re all just a bunch of railfans sharing info. Calm down, relax, and enjoy the hobby we all share! [;)][8D]

By the way, I agree that former CNW crews probably don’t like the UP too much. I remember talking to an engineer at Clinton, IA once shortly after the takeover. There was not much love to be had for the Yellow Borg there.

H’mm that is interesting as when I was in a former SPRR yard in California I was talking to a former SPRR employee & you should have heard what he had to say about big yellow. It was May 2 years ago & his litany was pretty angry to say the least. [:o)][:D][:p]
