Hi all,
Just poking my head in the door as I prepare to head to Montgomery, Alabama. Any good railfanning down that way? I may have a couple of hours tomorrow.
Oops, boarding time. TTFN!

new member here… just saying hello to everyone
[#welcome] brclem. Have a cup of just about anything, fried or plain [(-D] krump pays for all the free re-fills, but doesn’t do the washing up. Donuts etc available and OJ courtesy of Ed in Mexico who has a grow op.
What scale? Normal, or Horribly Oversized? or??? And where’s home?
***: I forgot to mention a square as a pretty handy device. Also one of those wooden rules about a yard long (Hardware stores, fabric shops, those sorts of places use them for advetising. ) They are great for converting into a compass for laying out curves. A nail through at the zero end, and holes just big enough for a pencil (tight fit) drilled at the radii you think you’ll be using most.
Too slippery out for safe walking tonight. So Rosie-the-dog loses out on a second walk today, and I am off to the new “fitness centre” with Kris. It would have opened earlier last Fall if someone hadn’t forgotten to order the equipment. [sigh]

getting ready to get back into N gage… used to be a family affair when I was growing up. Even my mom was into it a little…altough it gets expensive when my parents would be buying stuff for 6 sons.
Well I’m off to camp. See you all Sunday
Later Gents
Have a good Trip Fergie!!!
Well, I don’t have much, but it’s Friday!!! I’ve got the preliminary ARK decal scheme going, I think it will just be a slanted “ARK” letter with “The Appleton, Rivermooe, and Keenville” lettering below it. On boxcars I may include the slogan(to be determend) on the other side of the car. The lettering will usually be white or black. Car colors will follow the same scheme as the WSOR, Blue for boxcars, Red for RBL’s, Black for gondolas, and Grey with black lettering for covered hoppers. I hope to include some metalic stripes on the Gondola. I hope to include it as a pack, and trade it with others who ahve free lanced roads sometime. It’ll probably be a few month before I get the whole thing worked out, finding a person to print them, ect.
Well, I better get moving, I got a few things to do, and maybe a hour of work on the Building to night if I can spare the time. See ya!

[#welcome]. Newbies. Great place to meet. Bring your own mug.
***- if you are running a fever, I have a sure cure. Let me know.

Teffy; Ya. Mine hurt after a while too. I move them around some to take the pressure off . I’ve found that they do a good job even if they arn’t right on my ears. Try moving them to the front of your ears.
What!!! Fergies only 43. What’s that young wipper snapper doing running around driving a ship?
Well I saw some posts on page 232 that I wanted to reply to, so printed out that page. Did you know that it takes 13 pages of print to do one page of the forum? At least I can use both sides of the paper.
The kids bought me a DVD player for Christmas. Cost them $19.95. Cheap skates. It was really a great gift and works really well. The cost of electronics just keeps going down. Of course when it gets to the point that a person can afford it they come up with something to make what you just got obsolete. You just can’t win.
Tom; The Sawmill Place sounds good. I wi***hat they would get a good breakfast place here. I didn’t do anything about my hearing until a couple of years ago. Mary Ann and a friend who was one of the crew chiefs I flew with finally pushed me into going to the VA. I ended up with a 40% disability. Fancy that. All I wanted was hearing aids. So it isn’t too late.
***; MR ran a coupl of short articles recently on what tools are good to have. I think that they were in the Nov& Dec issue. I don’t really have anything to add to what has been suggested. After 50+ years I’ve got so many that I’ve lost track of what I have. The little level is a called a string line level. Handy but superceded by the laser level. I have a laser level and it is really handy. I can shoot a spot all the way accross the room if needed and don’t have to mess with a string.
Mitch; I like the Sponge Bob loco. I’ve been spending the last few days putting a new nose on the Sponge Bob figure at the park. Someone broke the old one off and made off with it. Fun,Fun,Fun.
Wel I’ll say good night all. See you all tomorrow.
Paul
brclem:
[yeah] [tup] [^] [8D] Good to know there’s another Normal person out there, even if it’s on “the other coast” [:D] Ed will be pleased too, and Scott, if memory serves.
Fergie: [bday]Happy belated Birthday…like really belated by the time you get to see this. Hope the camping goes/went well.
Paul:
If you want to save a tree or two, try opening up your browser to a fresh window for the page you want to refer to. (page 232 in this case) Then you can flip back and forth between the two. I get to the Coffee Shop through my browser’s “History” (I’m using Netscape, so that’s under “GO” for me) I click on the forum page I want in that history list, and bingo, there we all are! If you are coming in from the forum General Discussion > Coffee Shop, when it opens click back to the page you want. Either way, you have your page 233 open, and the other page too. You can do this for as many pages as your browser allows open at the same time.
It was my first visit to the fitness centre. A bit of a bust because the evening is crowded, so the best machines are heavilly booked. Also, the van has apparently developed a quirk in which the “door open” light is on all the time the ignition is on, although all the doors are firmly shut, and the interior lights go out as they should, but later than usual. Then, when the ignition is off, the interior lights are on all the time. So, I had to deal with that in the middle of the session, someone having come in to report that the lights were on in the van. It’s in the garage now with the trickle charger on the battery so that it doesn’t run down over night. I’ve got the light over the cargo door switched off, the bulb out of
Evenin’ y’all, hows things goin?
I got Kadee’s put on all the rock cars (11) today, so now I have a large pile of dummy couplers to put in my junkyard around the backshop. If I can talk dad into getting IM wheels for the set, I’ll also have enough wheels to make a carload.
John and Rob: Around here DVD players are 34.95 at Wal Mart, might be a little higher some places, but still pretty cheap.
Tom: The only coffee place in Calumet is Evans’ Grocery & Cafe, matter of fact it is the only store, and one of only two eating establishments (they don’t really fall in the classification of restaraunts) in town. But, like any quality coffee shop, you can get all of the best BS from the best BSing farmers around[:P].
Now, back to the real world, or not, do any of y’all get the Last of the Summer Wine? It is one of the local Britcoms, but it airs every night instead of only on Sundays.
Better go, the dog has showed up to help again, and petting and typing at tye same time doesn’t mix
Greg
Whoops, almost forgot,
[#welcome] brclem!!! Great place we got here, glad to see ya’.
Greg
Evening all, hope everyone is doing well, or getting well [:)]
Mitchell, you are popular, My son showed the sponge bob to his friends, and they all think it is awesome. He said my friend did it for me. Thanks buddy.
[#welcome] brclem!!! Enjoy the coffee and OJ. I take the smoothie orders, and mitchell does the frying. Have a great time here. Very Good Company.
Trainwreck, how long did it take you ?
Fergie [bday] sorry its belated, especially after your trip. Travel carefully, and have fun.
Paul,
did you get a picture of noseless sponge bob ? That would be cool !
Lawrence,
Have a good time down in Alabama. Hopefully no rain or snow for your visit.
Gotta get the food into the young 'uns. Will drink some more java later.

Paul:
I took John’s advise and by opening another window with the MR forum in it, I can go down the page and answer item by item. I did the last post that way and that way I can get most of the answers done.
John:
Are you aware the us HO guys are almost surounded by you Nearly invisable guys.
Ya’ll have a blessed evening and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY
Bob
Ed:
Notice in the last post I got the bold in and I did it by your idea of just typing in yes A little learning is a dangerous thing.
Bob
Ed - Bob - I guess I’m just an old dog. I read the instructions you write but just get lost.
Can’t seem to get the hang of all the tricks the 'puker is capable of.[][banghead].
Oh,well.
Time for bed. Goodnight all

Good evening gents… along day today, between mopping up water in the basement, running to HD for more wood, wire, and insulation for the train room, and the local CVS for cough, and sinus medication, clearing drains in the rain ( real good for a cold to get wet with 34 degree water ). Ohh well, Ed’s OJ tanker is due on the siding tomorrow from Mexico, thanks ED !!!
ED : Thanks for list of tools Ed, it is good to see what the pros use, I will be heading up to NH next month, and will be stopping by one of my favorite HS’s there with my shopping list, also the BIG E in a few weeks.
Paul : send some warm weather up here Paul, that is about the only thing that is going to clear my head, I can’t stand in the shower all day to get rid of this cold.
Der I had a pond bejind the house, that is what caused all the trouble. I never got a chan ce last Fall to build the stepped garden for the wife, with proper surface drains. I opened one up in the rain today and that took care of the standing water against the foundation. And get this Der, I live on the TOP of a hill, not the bottom!!
Thank you for your list of tools to add to my list, and great idea on the home made compass…love it !!! I also love square slot screws, they ARE superior to all other types for sure, I have used them.
Bob : The " creeper chair " is a great idea for working under benches, I have enough stiff necks and shoulders from crawling around in tight places, don’t need any more.
brclem : welcome to the coffee shop[#welcome], watch out for that guy who likes to brew STRONG coffee, he uses it to age his cars. Maybe I should dring some for my headcold, it will wipe out anything!!
Fergie : Stay safe, and Happy belated BD, Lisa said you were 62, is
Happy Friday, all! I’m in Spokane, WA, tonight, waiting for the after-midnight eastbound Empire Builder (I usually just drive down to Everett and catch the train there, but there were no seats from Everett when we finally got around to booking tickets!) Something of a tradition - when I’m in the country that is - for the MLK weekend: those of us in the Puget Sound area hop on the train there, my dad and whoever else he can round up in Spokane hop on the train there, and when we wake up we are in Whitefish, MT for 2 days of skiing. Sunday night the westbound train takes us back!
Greg and Tom - yep, Fallon is a much different climate from the Sound! But I grew up on the Eastern side of Washington, which (at least to me) has more in common with Northern Nevada’s climate than Seattles. I’ve visited there several times over the last few years, and believe it or not it’s not the summer heat or winter cold that bothers me much, it’s the dryness and the altitude (about 4,000 feet) that I find I have to acclimate to.
***- good idea on the notebook. Between this board and my 15 year (or so) collection of MR back issues, I’ve got a wealth of great ideas at hand but now I need to figure out a good way to be able to find that “one” idea I need when I need it!!
good late evening or actually early morning gents[%-)] I just got back from a trip home it was dads birthday and I went to my old hometown hobbyshop been in business 55 years and still goin strong! *** don’t talk so poorly about my weathering concoction espeacially if it ends up curing the common cold![8D]Greg those DVD prices are CDN funds so in the longrun it’s about the same.[#welcome] newbies don’t worry my extra stong is in the old discoloured pot so it should not be difficult to tell which pot is drinkable. *** by the way some small clamps for holding models together when the glue is setting and a scale ruler are also a good idea to have in your tool arsenal, once you get to doing scenery as well a decent spray bottle will come in handy I use old windex bottles cheaper than buying those dinky woodland scenics ones. Well sleepytime[zzz][zzz][zzz] I’ve got the early shift in the morning so TTFN Rob
Oops sorry Flip looks like I beat you another page so my treat everybody.[:D][:D] Der I almost forgot when I was down at St Kitts I found some pre-made passenger car windows from Grandt line as well as baggage doors etc so I’m off to the races with some scratch building supplies and best yet I don’t have to dissasemble anything. Good noght for sure this time. Rob
Morning all, it was a tremendous day in San Diego. 75, No rain, no clouds.
If bored with your weather, come on down.
I’ll even make a smoothie for you, but not to step on Robs toes.
Have a great evening.
