I read somewhere that the last Chessie painted units were retired and sent down to Waycross,
Georgia. These units were remote control units that stayed in the Toledo, Ohio area. Does anyone know if these units are indeed retired? If so, where are they now and what will become of them?
I think they would be refering to the units assigned to the Toledo Ore Company docks and formerly lettered TORCO. I only saw one Chessie unit at Waycross yesterday. But that one has been there for over a year.
as the drivers turn…ive lived on or near the C&O/Chessie System/CSX Detroit Division since 1970…i remember seeing the “last” WM unit in the early 80’s…in fact i clearly remember seeing a B&O F7/9 “b” unit working on a freight in 1971…i remember seeing the “last” B&O unit…the “last” C&O unit…havent seen a Chessie unit in a few years…as a trainman on the Detroit Div we always had the older 38’s on locals and yard jobs in the late 90’s…was a treat to have one painted in the CSX battleship grey as back then most up here were still in Chessie colors…and contrary to belief…new paint doesnt make em run better…[#dots]
From what I have been hearing 9120-2 have been shipped to Waycross.
