We replaced the window frame in my office, which allowed me to properly rebuild the entire area called “Sarsonne” on the lower level and prepare the supporting structure for the upper level in the Champlaine Grove zone. I even did a test using cardboard mockups for the buildings.
On the left side of the photo, you can see the bridge that allows access across the doorway. A grain hopper unloading facility will be located on this bridge. In the center, several industries are present, allowing for great switching sessions, and in the back near the window, a diesel locomotive maintenance shop will be added, which wasn’t in the initial plan.
On the right side, you can see the start of the return loop and the helix ramp that allows access to both the upper and lower levels (Dustienne).
For construction, I’m using 12mm plywood and threaded rods. It’s a fairly simple system that allows for precise height adjustments. The track will be installed later. In the foreground, you can see the track of the return loop.
This loop is managed by the Digitrax AR1 module. I recently acquired a Digitrax command station, and it works perfectly!
While waiting for the budget to buy more track, I also made progress on the layout’s aesthetics, which I find just as important — I want the layout to blend into the room like a piece of furniture or a shelf:
I even installed some reclaimed carpet to improve acoustics and make the room more pleasant
I also started doing some operating sessions on my partially functional layout. I tested both the Waybills and SwitchList systems using the following program: SwitchList.
It’s a really fun gameplay dynamic — especially when multiple people can join in!
Hey,
It won’t be easy, but I have 8 cm (about 3.15 inches) between the plywood sheets — enough space to lay the track with white glue and maybe some office pins, I hope.
It depends on my budget. My next track purchase is in a few months. If I have enough, I’ll buy the track for the lower helix directly, and I’ll be able to move the plywood using the bolts.
