Hey guys, alot of you have seen my forums on my layout and how it has evolved, but now not only is it progressing but it may be expanding in the near future. Now since i have a nice size staging yard the Engine servicing will be a nice addition to the layout. Not only will It add more trackage, but a switchable industry.
Here are the plans, sorry about the MS paint quality.
great idea. Go for it all the way. Myself I have incorporated tracks going to nowhere on my layout for future expansion as well.[:)] Lets face it a hole in the wall is only a hole in the wall that can be easily repaired.[;)] Such minor adjustments can be justified if the greatly increase the operational aspect of the layout.
My only suggestion would be to add either a wye at the junction of the yard lead and the main, or a reversing loop that allows a train to leave the yard, work the layout, then return to the yard head first. By adding a run around track at the yard, when the train pulls in, you can cut the engine off, run around to the back, and do your yard switching to get the next train ready to go out.
This is the basic arrangement on my layout, and I find it endlessly entertaining, because I can either run loops or do switching depending on my mood.
