The good..........and the bad.

My favorite uncle has fallen on some hard times and might be movin in with me and my family. I am excited that he will be moving in, he is like my absolute best friend in the world. However there are ramifications…my 2’x4’ N scale Coranado County Lines has to either find a new home or be faced with the prospect of bein destroyed. Thankfully, a generous friend of the family is gonna let me keep it at their house till my uncle can either patch things up with his ex or finds another place to live.

You need a place like my parents have. Five thousand square feet is a LOT of space! They have three unused bedrooms, two of which share a common wall. The third can be reached by going through a closet. I look at that and just imagine what kind of layout could be built there.

Can’t you fit a 2’x4’ under your bed with some folding legs on it? Be glad it’s not a room sized layout.

I wound up moving my stereo from on top of my dresser and put the layout there. Under the bed wasnt an option when you have chihuahuas in the house that tend to view my room as the public restroom fo whatever reason.

Back when I first got into the hobby, my first layout was only about 2’ X 3’, and I had no place else to keep it except under the bed… When my brother-in-law got into the hobby, he built a 4X8 layout that he suspended from his garage ceiling and used a complicated pully system to let it up and down. That was his way of dealing with his lack of space problem.

A 2’ x 4’ should be easy to tuck away someplace. When I got back into trains 5 years ago I made my orginal layou 2.5’ by 5’, just the right size to slide under my bed. Right now is’t part of a room size 11 x 18 layout… But that will soon change so do bad money (no job for almost 2 months now) and health probs for myself and my mother who I take care of… I spare you guys the rant/details…

Can’t you store your 2’x4’ layout on its side against a wall or in a closet when not in use?
