The Great Train Expo in Rock Island Ilinois this weekend!

Both Saturday and Sunday this weekend 10am - 4pm at the Expo Center Rock Island, Ill.

$7 for both days. I’ll be for most of the day Saturday…looking forward to dropping some big bucks [:)]

Just saw that the other day when driving by.Will be there saturday sometime hanging out.2 years ago I got a milk carton style ( remember when we were in grade school?) water from the Rock in blue and white. Hope that guy is there this year as he had a ton of really neat stuff.

will be there on Sunday. looking forward to it.

Are you a member of the Midwest Train Club or East Moline HO club?

Ran into a few guys from the E Moline Club there today. Was a little smaller than I recall but we had a pretty good looking turnout at 10 am.

To paraphrase Caesar; “I came. I saw. I left.”

Actually I stayed about 2 hours. And I did find a dealer who was in the process of cleaning out his stock of Bachman On30, so I managed to pick up a C&S boxcar for just under $20. Once again however I was disappointed with the lack of display layouts. I counted no more than 5, and that’s being charitable since two of those were actually dealer’s displays.

Was a bit down in size for layouts.I did like seeing the guys from Peoria. Some cool old stuff there. But I dont think there was an HO club there at all.

Of course I have to say the best was the large 3 track N scale one with the Rock island stuff on it.( cheapplug for my buddies lol)

No. I don’t belong to eather one. I was involved with the layout at Midwest Trains many years ago.

I just left that club. I was there for about 6 months, but job and family didn’t give me enough time to really participate the way that I should have.

I also was somewhat disappointed with the train show this year. I was there from 10am to 12:30pm. We had a nice line of 50 people trying to get in at 10am. But I only saw 2 or 3 vendors selling HO that I was even interested in. One only offered 10% discounts, so thats not enough for me to buy. Others offered better discounts, so I purchased from them. I left with 3 Intermountain Railway 60’ flat cars and some assorted other items. I only dropped about 100 dollars. I just didn’t see anything else there I liked. And like others stated, there just wasn’t many operating layouts there. Vendors were sparse too. I don’t think it was for the lack of people attending though, just vendors not willing to make the drive or pay for the tables.

That night I purchased one of these http://factorydirecttrains.com/paragon2nycj1edhudson.aspx

Now that’s exciting. My first steam locomotive ever on the layout. This baby is DCC, Sound and smoke. Looking forward to running it as an “excursion” loco in my 1995 era, even though they no longer exist.

We went this morning. arrived about 10 minutes before show started. maybe 10 people in line. nice thing about the light crowd, it was very easy to get around and look. I picked up a couple of freight cars an some building kits.

I would love to see that Hudson in a Dri Line logo going up river drive.

Are the diesels still in the Dri Line black and white?

Yes, when the BN and SooLine owned railroad was dissolved in 1995, all the engines were painted black and white. They’ve been that color scheme for some time now. The old S1,3 engines were maroon, orange and black. Here’s a picture of my custom painted Driline engines. I have 3 all custom painted myself. One is a walthers QSI sound loco. Very nice…

Ohhh yes a Hudson rolling up through Bettendorf would be cool.Anyone asks its being stored at Nahant lol.I dont know whatever happened to our DRI engine. I dont know if IC&E dumped it off or what.

Hey DRI whats going on at Midwest trains? the other day i drove by and the sign said open and there was a ton of cars. Was that just the club? Or what?Anyhow just like a Cubs fan we can say" Maybe next year"

Was it a Thursday night? That is when they used to meet.

The Hudson was “found” on one of the back tracks in Alters scrap yard. They didn’t have the heart to scrap such a nice locomotive. It was forgotten back there.

Buzz is bringing the hobby store back little by little. He’s open Friday and Saturday now. He set up his son with a business as well in the same building, so thats why you see his car there all the time. He offers discounts when you order through Walthers. I still buy from Thunder Road though because they have a great selection and I like them. I order big ticket items off the internet.

I hope they can make it work. It will be nice to have an LHS on this side of the river again, it’s a long drive to Thunder Road from where I live. I wonder if they will ever be able to resolve the parking lot issue with the scuba shop next door…

Nope, still the same. No Parky parky next to scuba shop. Must park on road only.

Well thats good to hear! I always got my books from Midwest trains ( magazines mainly) cause they had a good selection. Everything else would be from Betty and bernie. I have known them for years.

Scuba Steve as I call the guy is a royal PITA! All I can say is hopefully he lightens up.

I had heard that Buzz was thinking about reopening the shop. Good to hear that he did. I will have to stop in sometime. I don’t get to that part of town very often…now I will have to make it a point to go that way.

Nice to have him back. his was {and hopefully will be again} the best hobby shop around!!!

I dunno. The previous owner bought all of his stuff. Lock stock and barrel. Buzz is starting from the ground up. The trainclub also took more square footage from the store to build a crew lounge, so there isn’t as much space. Time will tell…

Drove past the shop a couple of times today and he wasn’t open. What are the hours that he is open?
