Wish I could.[:(] I used to live around the corner from it. There was a club that had some layouts in a building on the fair grounds. They used to do a real nice show for the Ohio State Fair.
Thanks for the clickable link. This will be the boys first train show [:D] twin boys (9yrs old) They really enjoyed our trip to the Kentucky Railway Museum, Riding the ol’ L&N 152, even though it was a bit cold and raining.
I’ll probably go since I’m going to be in Columbus on other business this Saturday. Thanks for the heads up. I haven’t been to the show for 2 or 3 years so hopefully there will be something a little different than the last time I went.
Is there anything unique about the show that you really like, or that you’ve really enjoyed in the past? How is the vendor representation, in general, at TGRE? Thanks!
Generally, my first stop is the layouts. A lot of the modules I recognize from previous shows but there are usually some new or updated ones. Most of the vendor tables offer stuff that is available elsewhere but usually there will be a find of something that is either no longer made or an off brand that you wouldn’t typically find elsewhere. I spend a lot of time with the vendors selling railroadania. A lot of the real good stuff, like old lanterns, is too rich for my blood but I’ll usually find something worthwhile at a reasonable price. I’m usually looking for an old timetable or two and this year is no exception. In particular, I’d like to find a CB&Q timetable from 1959 or close to it. I also like presentations of new modeling techniques or technology. I’m always looking for new ideas to apply to my layout.
I posted a thread a week or so ago on this, since I had never been to one and had forgot to ask anyone at my club about it. From the posts on that thread, seems like the layouts are pretty interesting, but supposedly not that many vendors there. As I’m a newbie, I’m more interested in HO vendors rather than memorabilia, but after having said all of that, hope to get time to go down and look around.
