The Hooterville Cannonball

Does anybody know what happened to the train from the “Hooterville Cannonball” on pettycoat junction and Green acres? The railroad was the C&FW, but I think that was a fake railroad for the show. Any help would be appreciated,

Noah

That loco and train are from the Sierra RailRoad and are kept in Jamestown Calf.

Thanks alot, Ihad been wondering for a while.

Noah, could you reduce the size of the image in your sig? even on my Broadband it’s a slow loader and I’d hate to see what the Dialups are feeling with it.

Thanks,
Jay

I’ve seen that show a few times, what I would give to get into that water tower with those ladies, WAAAAAZOOOOOOOGGGA!

…Just a matter of info: My dialup loads just as quick on this post as any…Really don’t seem to have problem with it.

I’m showing it as over 60K - could be smaller…

It’s probably in your cache.

Well now, let add this up. [}:)] The show was on originally back in the 60s right? Either the late 60s or early 70s. So “those” young ladies then would have been somewhere in their 30s ok. Now fast forward 35 years and “those” young ladies are now drawing their social security. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. [}:)] [;)] [:p]

<I am judging this from all the reruns, yeah right. [B)] >

Come on now, you know what I meant…[sigh]

…The young ladies probably were in their 20’s…

Hey guys!

I’ve seen and met beautiful ladies in their 50s and 60s that take very good care of themselves! One of my co-workers, a business teacher, is 58 but her students all think she’s in her late 30s!

Julie Newmar, Sophia Loren, and Diahann Carol still attract plenty of attention!

You can do the math:
Billie Jo was played by 3 different actresses:
Jeannine Riley b: Oct 1, 40
Gunilla Hutton b: Mar 15, 44 (Was also on Hee Haw, as I recall)
Meredith McRae b: Mar 30, 44 (Has in acted numerous shows)

Bobby Jo was played by two different actresses:
Pat Woodell b: July 12, 44
Lori Saunders b: Oct 4, 44

Betty Jo was portrayed by only one actress throughout the 222 episodes:
Linda Kay Henning b: Sept 16, 44

Not to change the subject away from actresses ---- but while Sierra No. 3 played the Cannonball for the live action shots (and I think was also the engine for The Wild Wild West TV show), there was a replica engine of an entirely different prototype that was used for studio shots, such as the crew climbing up or down from the cab etc. I seem to recall reading that a collector in CA owned this replica but cannot find my reference material. I think it was a replica of a 2-8-0, life size.
Dave Nelson.

Later in the shows run, a 7/16" scale (I believe) model was used for both the Cannonball and the shorty combine, along with a 60’ section of track for filming the model in motion. Also the Shady Acre hotel and parts of Hooterville were made in model form. This was all a cost cutting device by the studio so location shooting on the Sierra RR could be cut.

This was written about in a issue of Narrow Guage and Shortline Gazzete a few years ago, the article was written by the guy who built the models, and also did models for Star Trek and other shows of that era. It included photos of the models.

The Cannonball is a Baldwin 4-6-0 still operated by the Sierra RR as #3 , though i could be wrong about this, and the Shorty combine is still around too, but I dont know if its still used.

Any Sierra RR buffs out there can clear this up?

Hey, that’s OK, that’s why we’re here… - At least the ladies had a tie to a railroad, though.

About the original post time of this thread, the TV Land cable network played what looked like the pilot episode for “Petticoat Junction.” I just happened to come across it.

Jay, I’ve been told that there isn’t away, but I wi***here was, I’d like to make it smaller.

That’s exactly where I got the idea for this thread!!

Thanks to all of you for helping with this question.

Also, another interesting thing to note is that back in the 60’s when the show was on, Tyco made an HO model of the Hooterville Cannonball. While on the show it’s just the combine, the set also contained 2 other passenger cars. These sets are highly collectable and very valuable today. Boxed sets on ebay always go for $300 or more. And to think that it cost $29.98 originally.

Sorry…I though the topic title was referring to Amtrak.
