The L&N Lives!! (well sorta)

Heading back up Rte.59 from gulf Shores my wife spied a train and an old depot in Foley, Al. Great stop!!!

Now THIS is a train layout!!! This person donated all this train stuff plus spent a year building the layout for the depot… WOW!!!

Great Find !!! Tremendous pictures, and a really nice family!!!

[#ditto] Very nice, Jon. Thanks.

Chuck

Great find Jon. [tup]

Speaking as the grandson of a L&N conductor, I would love to see more L&N stuff produced. [^]

Jon, your daughter is pretty. Is she married? [;)]

Jim

LOL, Jim!!! She’s high maintanence, Bro!!!

Here’s some more shots of the layout there:

Ohhh… I already have one of those, Jon. I feel your pain. All in fun. Your wife is a hottie.

Jim

Jon,

Great pics! I lived in Mobile over 20 years and remember when the L&N branch was still operating down to Foley. Nice to see they’ve got the station refurbished with that great layout. The old SW-1 looks to be in pretty good shape too. Hope you and your family had a nice trip to the “Redneck Riviera!” [:)]

What a great place! Hope you had a fun trip. That layout looks massive - it must’ve taken up most of the depot -and it is just open like that - maybe a club runs it.

Doug, They built an addition behind the old depot to house the layout and other train related equipment. The layout is operational 3 times a week from 10:00AM until 2:00PM.

Jon, great photos. Thank you for sharing. [tup][tup]

There are many of these small railroad museums around the country that need to be given our patronage. Here are three that if you find yourself traveling through or near Ohio, that I would suggest:

http://www.madrivermuseum.org/ (Near the Ohio Turnpike)

http://cincirailmuseum.org/ (Near Cincinnati)

http://www.trainweb.org/norm/ (Southwest of Cleveland near I-71)

Now if you want to see THE Premier layout in Ohio , check out http://www.cincymuseum.org/explore_our_sites/cincinnati_history/cincinnati_motion/ (I-75, Cincinnati)

and of course, Spanky Bird (Tom) will always welcome you at

http://wrmrrm.org/ (I-90, east of Cleveland) I bet he will even let you run the trains.

Just to the west of Ohio south of I-70 you can find the canal town with the Whitewater RR http://www.whitewatervalleyrr.org/excursions/

And Jon, this one should be of significant interest to you because this is what you model.

I know where I’m going next time I head through Alabama.
Nice pics. They are appreciated.
