Here. [2c] Hope it helps.

Cut down on the passenger runs and try to get some steady bulk business going. The fewer passenger trains and locals you need to run, the lower your costs. Running the same unit trains through the same cycles means that you can even dump a few dispatchers. Fire everybody! Blame the writers strike!(oops, that might get political, don’t anybody reply to that last bit)
What I mean is the LAC has only 5 out of 10 engines running and 1 is in need of major repair! And the railroad doesn’t have many passenger cars. And we don’t have much money! |
---|
well, you’re running from New Haven in Ct all the way to So-Cal I would bet that you need alot more motive power. What disaster happened to kill off half your fleet?(geez I don’t want to get caught making political jokes on this thread)
Well I don’t run on the New York, New Haven, & Hartford. I run in LA. Out of Union Station. All of my other locos have burned-out engines. |
---|
Then you have a major problem! It’s time beg, borrow or steal lease units from wherever you can get them, get the revenue back up and re-engine your other units.
I might get 2 engines for chirstmas. |
---|
Do what the prototypes do, lease what you need. I saw a stack train a while back with one NS engine in the lead and two UPs and a BN(yes, the old paint which I thought was long gone by now)following along.
I’ve never been to LA, but I have been to New Haven, Danbury, Waterbury, Bridgeport and that tiny overlooked place, New York City. The rails there are full of alot more than ten locomotives. How are you burning out engines? I’ve got a Marx 999 2-4-2 that is at least 60years old, slept in a damp basement for nearly 30 years and still runs great.
1 of my opreational engines is a Thomas engine which I use on special occasions. So that means 3 usable locos! |

IIRC even thomas and friends got stuck pulling revenue freight from time to time…
My Thomas has those LGB couplers. So it can only pull one of his coaches. |

Sir Topham hat will most certianly be agreeable to favoleable lease terms in exchange for promoting tourism to the Island of Sodor.(are we getting way out of whack here?)
I have forty locomotives and only one doesn’t run. The oldest one I have is a Bachmann GP40 that I bought new in Germany in 1977. It was still running good before I shoe horned in a Power Points West can motor. Now it’s an excellent runner.
I don’t have contact with STH. |

so outfit something with a LGB coupler on one end and a Kadee (or equiv) on the other… then Thomas will be able to be used. OR you could just put Kadee (or equiv) couplers on Thomas.
And then there’s always shoe string and bubblegum…
Ya know what, I don’t have many Passenger or Freight Cars! |
---|
Putting Kadee’s on Thomas can be labor intensive. I have a 4-6-0 Hall Class that has those hook and loop couplers. Upgrading it (which I don’t intend to do. It’s a lousy puller, three freight cars max.) would entail cutting off the hook and loop couplers complete and installing the Kadee coupler boxes.
[#ditto] I have about 12-15 freight cars, and 9 passenger. But the RR can still make a pretty penny. Though we’re in a bit of a bind with the boiler of the 0-4-0 springing a leak (motor gave out), have a Mogul from a branchline switching the yard until it gets fixed…
(Yes, we’re taking this too far HEdward… though I think even with the less than serious posts, we’re still giving I-5 some helpful tips…maybe)
