The lights please...

Even though tomorrow officially kicks off Weekend Photo fun, I wanted to include a teaser.

Last night I outfitted and wired up my small Fairbanks-Morse Coaling tower that I built last year with 1.5V 15mA GOR bulbs.and N-scale shades. (It’s the only way to get the N-scale shades from Miniatronics.) It was a bit challenging to wire but results are worth it:

With all four lights going, it’s a real focal point of the layout at night.

P.S. It’s amazing how many handy tools you can come up by using just a large paper clip. [:)] Worked great for pulling wires down and out the base of the coaling tower. (Bet that’s not mentioned in the original patent.)

All this lighting is becoming a challenge, Thanks to your other thread I feel obliged to get moving on lighting things, like my refinery, that will be a riot. Some of my already completed building now need lights. More work.

Tom - gonna have to start calling you “The Light Man”. Looks real good. Yes too bad we couldn’t get some little bit bigger scale shades. With a little work I get the small shades to work nicely with a 3mm LED,

Terry,

Actually, the smaller shades are exactly the right size for the structure. The N-scale lamp shades only come prepackaged - i.e. already wired up with GOR bulbs. I haven’t been able to find the N-scale lamp shades just by themselves. Campbell may make them.

Nice work![tup]

I’m nowhere near that point with the structures on my layout, but I have simulated fire (hot metal) in one of my steel mill buildings.

Tom - Misunderstood the whole N scale shade thing, sorry. I use the HO scale brass shades. Matter of fact just got in three packs of them from Walthers. They were on sale. I pretty much do everything with LEDS as I also got a butt load of the 3 and 5mm LEDs on sale the other day. Something like 100 for 22 dollars. I have enough LEDs to light up my house not to mention my layout.
