Yes
Depends on the diesel. I’m sure that a short wheelbase and/or not having all-wheel pickup is more prone to having a problem.
Those holes and the recessed ties are designed to accept the bus bar (Atlas part #9200002) from an Atlas Snap Relay, fastened with an 0-80 screw (Atlas part #9200001).
The screw is a clearance fit through the holes in the frog, and threads into the bus bar itself.
However, I have found that the Atlas screws are sometimes just a little too short going through the frog, grabbing only a thread or two of the bus bar and thus prone to pulling the threads right out of it if you tighten it up even a little. 0-80 by 3/16 brass screws work much better, although they aren’t blackened to match the frog like the Atlas screws. But a little weathering fixes that…
And the other end of the bus bar is also threaded for an 0-80 screw, but I usually just solder a feeder wire to it (must be polarity-switched as you move the points…)
Hopefully this helps!
