I had somebody killed at a blind BNSF private crossing in ‘98 by this train minus the strobe light. Do the trains keep the same #s for the lifetime of the train and why was the strobe light removed. It is probably all that would have been needed to shoot light in front of the 8’ tall brush in between the unattached garage 52 feet from the tracks and 25 feet from the road. Wish I had known about this picture 6 months ago before BNSF bought the Federal judge and the flea bag attorney we had off.

i’m sorry for the loss of your friend… if you are speaking of the numbers painted on the chassis, they are permanent, unless the unit changes ownership… new ownership usually means a new number…
the unrepaired strobe is probably due to poor maintenance…
while you are entitled to express your opinion, a personal attack on anyone’s performance in their profession can be slanderous … it can be heard in federal court, and you could be in big trouble, along with the forum provider… you need to watch what you say… a trial could be awarded to the jursdiction closest to your residence, or you could be summoned to a federal legal proceeding where it pleases the plaintiff…
You had the guy killed and then blame us. all i can say is you should be in jail. then blame a engine for some strobe light that is not manditory and i aint seen one since the 60s. but i am sure this attorney can get your name froom the site and have a slander suit on you. I think you need to do more research before you make a statement.

Or, was it private property? If so, you should have sued the landowner. Or was the landowner the victim? And because they didnt maintain their property, BNSF is at fault?
Strobe lights are used on yard engines, not road power. Road units have mandatory ditch lights, most flash alternating.
Rooftop strobes were found to not be effective at alerting people at crossings. Ditch light are.
I am truly sorry for your loss, but you followed the money, and lost.
As for Mr Brown being a ex railroad attorney, that would be the best kind to hire, after all, he should know all of their tricks.
I can tell you this. All of my daughters, ages 4 thru 16, know what not to do at a railroad crossing. The inadverntly drove up on my last fatal incident, they were bringing me dinner. The look on my 16 year olds face as the wreckers pulled what was left of the volvo off the front knuckle, then pried the two sides of the car apart so the EMTs could remove the little girls body from between the rear doors convinced me that she will never, ever approach a railroad crossing with out looking both ways, listening for the horn and bell.
And why is it that people like you allways use the “they bought the judge” excuse when they lose? Funny, you seem to accuse the feds of being in cahoots with the railroads, yet you turn around and use federal(FRA) statistics as “proof” for your off the wall logic. If the feds are in the railroads pocket, as you suggest, then the numbers you use to make your dubious point have to be the numbers the railroads want, so you are promoting the version your arch rivals want you to.

Ed and most railroads do keep up the crossing part. ( for those that need more info the part you drive over.) and at any moment ccare rip out that crossing and not replace it. leave you to figure out how to get in and out of your house . even the road i work for has been nice enought to build and pay for relocating crossings including new driveways. the only thing the owner of the property did was tell them where they wanted the new road to go. in the long run its less maintance for the railroad and easier on the property owner. ( safer if you must)
but getting back to his goverment numbers he spouted off about a truck soing 1mph needs so many seconds to clear the crossing. heck a person walking walks at 4-5 mph and he thinks a truck is going to do 1 mph idling. come back to reality or is that asking to much.
